Believe it or not Ralph, Mrs Red insisted that the t shirt was beige and we're all mad.

Thursday July 26th 2014.
A barge reverses into a parking space. I kindly take time out to shout instructions from the quayside.

About eighteen years ago, I played a weekend chess tournament in Liverpool (actually at Aintree Racecourse). On the Saturday night, I went to a local chip shop - as you do when you're young and hungry - and ordered for me and the two people I was with. One wanted a picked onion, as some like, round our way. I asked as politely as I could for one.
I was met with a coarse twang: "Pickled onions? In a chip shop? We don't serve pickled onions in chip shops round here, luv!" She just laughed, as did the other servers. What a ridiculous notion: onions in vinegar in a jar on the counter? Preposterous! I did my best, through ruddying shame, to explain it's a common feature of chip shops in Birmingham and I was surprised they don't do that in Liverpool. To no avail, alas.
If you get the chance to frequent or even pass by a local purveyor of potato and piscine-based alimentation, it would mean a lot to me to see a photo of the counter:
Do they serve pickled onions, yet?
(I don't even like them, but, after all these years, it's become a running joke and, as a result, a matter of principle)
TIA, as they say.

Speaking as someone who is particular about what enters his body, I can say that I won't be frequenting any fish and chip shops. Well, not for my own gratification anyway. I may however have to compromise my principles to sate Mrs Red's voracious appetite.
If I do, I'll bear your onions in mind.

We're having a wonderful time in Liverpool, (No, really) whish you were all here.
Albert Dock is pretty amazing, and it's great to see that it is still lively and vibrant, albeit through tourism rather than trade.
We spent two half days in the museum of Liverpool. We could just have easily have spent a week. What an eclectic mix of exhibits they have, from the truly ancient to the relatively modern. For instance, one section might be dedicated to industry, the next to boxing, the next to 60s pop music, the Beatles and the Mersey Beat.
Speaking of the Beatles, it's astonishing to me how a boy like John Lennon could make such a deep and lasting impression on the world in such a short lifetime. The city is littered with people who have traveled half way across the world to see his birthplace and his old stamping ground.
I was told yesterday that Liverpool has more listed buildings than any other city in the country except London and I can quite believe it. Every Street has half a dozen 'love it or hate it' examples.
It rained yesterday, so we did the museum of slavery, (what are eye opener that was) and we saw the Titanic exhibition at the maritime museum.
The sun is out today, so we're hoping to do an open top bus and the Mersey ferry.

How can the top of this building be older than the bottom?

In the Maritime museum, there was a section labeled "Hello sailor" which focused on gays in the navy. I took a snap of this bloke because I couldn't believe his name.

Ah The Vines, nearly as ornate as the Philarmonic. When I first started up down in Liverpool 20-odd years ago the company put us into the Adelphi Hotel next to the Vines. So it became a regular pint stop. While we were there they used to have a disco in the larger hall through the back. One lunchtime a guy came in who'd been in the night before, he was an art expert & asked to see through in the hall. He'd noticed a couple of paintings and was interested in them. They were antiques and sold for a quarter million iirc.

Like a vulture finds a carcass from 20 miles away, Mrs Red has found a car boot sale and is currently gallivanting around, as happy as a pig in muck.
