Did you catch the "Eichmann Show" last night BBC2 9pm?

A dramatisation, including actual footage, of the Eichmann trial in 1960 including very harrowing holocaust images.

A very impressive programme indeed, powerful stuff

I've recorded it thanks Rich.

The other 'new' dog added by the Kennel Club is the well known gundog the wire haired vizla.

I always think it's a shame when they add a working breed to the show ring because it leads to unnecessary changes to the breed. I'd far rather a working bred lab than a show bred for example.

(obviously I'm bred for show  whale )

I couldn't agree more Rod. The Kennel Club is the worst thing that ever happened to dogs.

Been reading about the Coton de Tulear that Rich posted, named for it's cotton like hair (coton is french for cotton), it was bred in Madagascar & at one point only the Malagasy royalty could keep them.

They're thought to be an unexpected result from the breeding of a Tenerife Bichon & a local dog, the Bichon being brought in by pirates who used Madagascar as a base, and kept small dogs as ratters on board their ships.

Quite a cool history for a wee dog.

Funny that the Bichon & the Yorkie, derided by some as 'girly' dogs were dogs kept by pirates & miners originally Cheesy

It amazes me rats can make a living on ships. even big modern ones.

Big modern ships that is, not big modern rats.

Dog licenses should be brought back as a one-off £100 fee and the money used to provide free spaying and compulsory micro-chipping. If you can't afford it, you can't afford to keep a dog properly anyway.

If dogs are micro-chipped there is no such thing as 'Can't find the person responsible'.

A dramatisation, including actual footage, of the Eichmann trial in 1960 including very harrowing holocaust images.

A very impressive programme indeed, powerful stuff

I caught up with this over the weekend and I have to say the programme itself was appalling.

The archive footage of the actual trial was, as you say, harrowing. Today we're fully aware of the horrors of the death camps but to think that this was the first that most people heard of what happened there, and saw the photos and film, the effect on people must have been tremendous.

But the drama side was dreadful - a clunky, ham-fisted script that jarred all the way through. Martin Freeman with his fresh-off-the-shelf US accent. It would have been far, far better to just commission a 90 minute documentary about the trial.

In complete contrast to this was the programme on BBC Four last night - the first half of the super-epic (nine hour) Holocaust documentary Shoah. A succession of eyewitness accounts of the Holocaust, it's a good job I was also recording it as it's not something I think I could go through in one sitting.
