The girls know that I don't read fiction, but they asked me to make an exception and gave me a copy of this to take with me on my hols.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Curious-Incident-Dog-Night-time/dp/0099450259
I Highly recommend it.
Anyone else read it btw?
Yes, it's very good.
If you like your books short and hilarious, I'd recommend (former Simpsons writer) John Swartzwelder's "How I Conquered Your Planet" or "The Exploding Detective"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Exploding-Detective-John-Swartzwelder/dp/0975579967/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1
Cheers Chris.
Actually, I wouldn't use either of those adjectives to describe this book.

I have a copy for Tony, I was going to insist that he read it, but then I decided on a different approach.
Gently, ever so gently....

I'd REFUSE. Unless you would not allow me to read it......

So you're on this game show, there are three doors. behind one door is a new car, behind each of the others is a goat.
You choose a door, but before you open it, the host must open one of the other doors and show you a goat, then you have the option to open the door you originally chose or change your mind.
How do you give yourself a 2/1 chance of finding the car every time?

LOL, I know it has something to do with your choices. There's 3 different combinations:
C G G
G C G
G G C
If you choose door 1 every time, it's only possible to choose the car once. By switching every time, you only get a goat the time you actually chose the car, because the other 2 times, the goats will be revealed in advance and you can't choose them.

Yes. Isn't that fantastic?
I had the answer explained to me and I still had to think about it all night before I understood it.

You might say I thought about it all night, and it dawned on me in the morning

It's easier to understand if you say there are 100 doors at the start - then it becomes obvious why you should switch.

I know the combinations and when it's put like that it's simple. People start talking about probability and it just goes straight over my head!
