This shows a giant picture of the war damaged Brandenburg gate standing in front of the now restored version.
Does that make sense? If not, Andrew T will explain.

I went into a garage in Belgium because I wanted to inflate one of my tyres. I couldn't find the air line, so I asked the bloke behind the counter and he gave me a box of wind.

Tom,
during your time in Germany did you notice a severe lack of litter?
Was it the same in the other countries you visited?
It is my overiding memory of my time in Germany, how clean the streets etc were. Looking at the station pics, can you imagine all the litter that would be lying about if it were a British station?

I couldn't believe it Geo. You couldn't even find a fag end or a bit of chewing gum.
What's more, Mrs Red and I walked around the city at chucking out time and felt perfectly safe, we saw no loutish behaviour vandalism or violence. It was the same in Kracow.
Try walking around Leicester, Nottingham or any UK city late at night and you really have to watch your back.
We should be ashamed of ourselves.

that's pretty remarkable - as there doesn't seem to be an abundance of bins either.....

It's not about the number of bins Claire, it's about attitude. I mean, lets be honest, if you can carry a full Coke can or crisp packet, you can carry an empty one.

Couldn't agree more sir,
Edinburgh here is such a beautiful city barring litter, graffitti, roadworks, terrible roads and pavements and louts.
Makes me wonder what all the visitors think.
The other week I was watching the bucketmen emptying our wheelie bins and on placing one over-full bin on the cart a batch of stuff fell from an opened bag onto the road behind the cart. I watched as they dealt with each bin, then whistled the driver on to the next tenement without any attempt to clear the mess.
After a friendly word the guy eventually walked back and cleared it (with a face like fuzz.)

I thought about that. Then I realised that pigeons only come to eat the food waste that we drop.
