Tom, what are your favourite animal/bird/creatures in the world and where would you most like to go to see them in their natual habitat?

Always get the feeling you could turn your hand to any animal.

I know what you mean I thought I was the first to invent "one hand one bounce" on the playground at school.

The way the question's put - it's leading to a no answer, BUT the Condor is an apex species, to have a popuation so large you have to have a large area of habitat to support them, with all the species in that habitat to provide the food for the condor, the species (animal & plant) to support them etc etc, then yes - well worth it.

I was trying not to influence anyone one way or the other.

Fail eh?

Sorry Tom, didn't mean the way YOU put the question, but the impression I got of the way they asked it on the radio.

Also if the question of 'saving this animal costs £X - is it worth it?' is asked, it is seldom looking for the deeper answer as to what the real benefits of saving the animal were.

The otter is now meant to be living wild in every county in England bar one (Kent) IIRC. So what, few people ever see them - but the rivers are cleaner, better habitats for lots of other species as well as 'wildlife corridors' allowing populations to mix helping keep the breeding strong. so it means the countryside is considerably better off.

Always get the feeling you could turn your hand to any animal.

Tough to pick favourites. If you watch something like Sir David Attenborough's "Life on Earth" for instance, a pygmy shrew can turn out to be just as fascinating as a tiger.

I would live to see wild dogs on the Serengeti, orang utans in Borneo, emperor penguins in the Antarctic, Oh and the Reindeer of Mongolia along with the people who herd them. (Actually, their entire lives completely dependant on the reindeer, they provide food, shelter, transport, and clothing).

I could fill pages with this bucket list......

If we were to talk domesticated animals, I have a special affinity with horses and dogs, especially dogs. I understand dogs far far better than I will ever understand people. They have always been there for me. Ever willing, ever faithful, ever forgiving.

Birds..... Don't get me started on birds, was there ever anything more diverse, or more beautiful?

I don't have a Facebook account, but someone alerted me to a comment my daughter Bridie made on there soon after this weeks show finished.

"Gentlemen, start your cringe-ins".

Got the day off tomorrow. Well, apart from a few emails and a bit of virtual paper-work. (I hate paperwork, and I hate opening emails)

Then I'm off down le fumée for two days, so no weigh-in on Friday morning. Hotel breakfasts, business lunches. (Lol) So much temptation. Must stay focused.

Then back home Friday night on the cheapskate express, ready for the £300 at DTD on Saturday.

They pay me a pittance, but it's not a bad life if you don't weaken.

How'd you get on in the end?

Slept eventually, didn't eat. Woke up feeling fabulous.

I'm ready for anything now, so if you need a step donkey-stoning, an uprising quelled or a bra burned, I'm your man.
