Played the £300 @ DTD yesterday. Made day two with 15 bb (which is quite good for me).

After bagging up I stayed to watch the Haye fight and then had something (else) to eat, by then it was about 1:30 and I was knackered so I decided to sleep in my van.

I went out like a light and didn't stir until the birds (feathered) woke me at 7am.

I had a quick wash & shave and set out in search of breakfast, MacDonald's stylee.

If you're ever up and driving about in the early morning, you will notice that there is quite a lot of road kill lying around, even in cities, waiting for the foxes, crows and these days, even buzzards to come along and clean up.

Of course, 7am is much to late in the day for all that, so I was really surprised to see a cat-sized animal that had been squashed flat about a yard shy of the curb. Even more surprising was the animal's colour, a pale pink with flecks of red.

I realised that the red could have been blood, but I didn't think so. The morning was already very warm and blood dries black quite quickly in the heat, and anyway it just didn't look right.

It puzzled me all the way to MacDonalds and all through breakfast. In the end I decided that it had to be either a zoo critter, some kind of exotic pet that had done a runner, or (my best guess) some old dear's pink rinsed poodle that had come to grief while out on the town for a night of illicit  passion.

Whatever the case, I had to know the truith. Scalding my lips with the last of my coffee, I hurried back to find out, hoping like mad that the cadaver was still available for forensic examination.

You know those furry hats with the ear flaps that fashion-concious kidz like to wear in the middle of summer? Well I think they are really stupid.

My daughter appears to have discovered a new species. The frigging bird.

Apparently, one has been jumping about on the roof of her caravan since 5am.

Where do pigeons go at night?  All day long they hang out on rooftops and garden fences.  But once the sun goes down, they all go missing.Where to?

Like the vast majority of birds, they roost. Usually somewhere that's reasonably sheltered and difficult for predators to access.

A notable exception is the swift, which never lands, except to lay it's eggs and rear it's young.

After literally throwing itself from the nest, a fledgeling swift opens it's wings and starts to fly. it doesn't stop flying until it is sexually mature, over two years later.

Swifts eat, drink and mate on the wing. At night they gain altitude and fly in a holding pattern while sleeping with half their brain at a time.

There are no pigeons out this morning.  Are they the type who stay hidden when the weather turns?  I'm in curious mode this morning.  Soz.

No. Most birds burn energy so fast that they only just have enough reserves to make it through the night. They have to find food soon after first light whatever the weather.
