modern day match fishing Tom. Top of the range poles like the ones they are using can cost  £3 grand plus and its not uncommon to have £20k plus worth of fishing gear.

Blimey! No wonder he moved it fast when I went past on my bike.....

lol. yes they are  made from top grade carbon fibre and although they are in 1.5 metre sections the thicker ends can be £800 each. seen loads of joggers bust em as they try to hurdle em but its usually the anglers fault for not moving it and they are insured most of the time.

Newtown Unthank.  Your thoughts on the name more so than the actual town.  Has me baffled tbh.

This is the best I can come up with.

According to the Oxford Directory of English Place Names, the place and hence the surname derives from a pre 7th century Olde English word "unpance" which means literally "without leave," and described an area of land which was occupied unlawfully.

I don't know where I read it but I was under the impression that 'Unthank' referred to the boggy nature of the ground in that area, i.e. thankless, difficult to farm. I know the Tubes steelworks there, constantly had pumps running to remove water from its foundations.

It's a good name though wouldn't you say Tom? Full of character & charm, a bit like your good self. Not as good as Merry Lees maybe, but not bad.

What about Husbands Bosworth and Barton in the Beans?

There was a road sign that said "Mavis Endlebury & Old Bollingbroke" Some wag wrote underneath "Wish to announce the birth of their son"

The power of hydraulics is amazing. I mean, imagine a couple of tons suspended on the end of this crane, and then look at the position on the little hydraulic ram that lifts it. (For the uninitiated, the ram is that little chrome bit that my fantastic red arrow is pointing at)

Look where it is. You couldn't think of a worse position to lift from. that two tons must be magnified to 50 tons, but it lifts it as if it's nothing.

The really amazing thing is, it's all powered by a couple of pints of oil and a pump that's smaller than a washing machine motor.

Look at this bottle jack. It lifts 20 tons but Mrs Red could power it.
