The best explanation I've seen is that when you have a sum without brackets written in there are actually implied brackets in there

so 40 + 40 x 0 + 1= ? actually means (40) + (40 x 0) + (1), that's not really very interesting though, 0 is almost as bad as infinity though

Isn't zero divided by zero 1?

or indeed impossible as you can't divide by zero (but ffs don't tell tom that, his head may explode)

You get better head exploding material as 0/0 = 0 or 1 or infinity or actually anything in the middle, maybe more succinctly it's undefined and doesn't have an answer
