Bender tents, (named after the willow or hazel poles from which they were constructed) made a useful day room and second bedroom

If I lived in a caravan with Tom I'd be more concerned about internal wind barriers.

Even in modern times, bender tents and the construction techniques are still useful. This is my son-in-law in one we made as a temporary shelter last year. Click to see full-size image. |

I bet when Hugh Hefner dies, you won't hear anyone say, "He's in a better place."

Back when that first b&w picture was taken the canvass tents used by the army and others would have been bell, or ridge tents. Now that we can manufacture a carbon fibre bendy pole modern tents replicate the methods that have been used for years...

It's called progress David. Joking aside though, some of the tents they make today are just amazing. Excellent two-man jobs that weigh 3-4lb and pack down to the size of a loaf of bread.

I know what you mean Lee, but it's still nice to do things the old way.
Cooking outdoors on a camp-fire is almost universally appealing.

Ah, but not everyone can have a Range Rover, including me. The 'handle-over' frying pan is mine though.
