This is puzzling me. I have a little mower with a rotary blade. Click to see full-size image. |
When the grass is very long, it cuts much better if I pull it backwards rather than pull it forwards. Why? PS- I've made a point of not lengthening the cut by tilting the mower when I pull it.

May be the same reason why you should shave in upward strokes as opposed to downward. By using an upward motion you pull the hair up from the root therefore taking more of the hair. By using a downward motion you push towards the root causing some bending which means less hair is cut. Hope this makes sense. Is this another trouser loop caught in bathroom door handle type question? geo

I'd imagine you can still push..but against the root edit: the make up of the mower will also determine easiest way. As david says, with the mower in the pic you can see there is a sort of guard thing which when pushing will tend to push the grass forward which is not at the rear. same with the non powered ones which have a roller in front. I'm happy with Geo's theory, but it makes me wonder why there isn't a lift up flap at the front to make long grass cutting easier.

I just cooked myself a roast chicken dinner and I'm now schvitzing like a you know vat.
It was the golf that I played earlier on our beautifully manicured course in readiness for this weekend's top amateur event which connected to the grass being mown and your mower in case you were wondering..

I watched the open and really wished I could play. (Golf that is, not the open).

To even come "last" in The Open you still have to qualify through various stages of regional heats to get to play in the main event so I think that you would get some money for that.
