This is puzzling me.

I have a little mower with a rotary blade.

When the grass is very long, it cuts much better if I pull it backwards rather than pull it forwards. Why?

PS- I've made a point of not lengthening the cut by tilting the mower when I pull it.

Olympic athlete Voula Papachristou has been kicked out of the games because of a racist tweet. (Quite right too omo)

There are some examples of big bro going too far in the vid though, like the butcher who was ordered to remove sausages from his shop window because he had arranged them in the shape of the Olympic ring logo.

In his excellent piece below the vid, Mike Lopresti calls Twitter a 'Global bull horn'. How apt.

hate racists but also think the gays have rights too

Lol. You've whooshed me Jase. Why wouldn't you think that Gays have rights?

Lol. WP.

May be the same reason why you should shave in upward strokes as opposed to downward. By using an upward motion you pull the hair up from the root therefore taking more of the hair.

By using a downward motion you push towards the root causing some bending which means less hair is cut.

Hope this makes sense.

Is this another trouser loop caught in bathroom door handle type question?

geo

nailed it - when the grass is long the front of the mower pushes it down and away from you (downward razor stroke) and the back of the mower either doesn't, or does it less.

really??? cant accept that lawn mowers have been designed that badly that its better to pull them rather than push em. ikeep our grass short but you can bet i'm gonna have a go pulling the lawn mower backwards. imagine the fun if you own a sit on mower

Three weeks growth in grass

Pull much more effective than push

I'd imagine you can still push..but against the root

edit: the make up of the mower will also determine easiest way. As david says, with the mower in the pic you can see there is a sort of guard thing which when pushing will tend to push the grass forward which is not at the rear.

same with the non powered ones which have a roller in front.

I'm happy with Geo's theory, but it makes me wonder why there isn't a lift up flap at the front to make long grass cutting easier.

I just cooked myself a roast chicken dinner and I'm now schvitzing like a you know vat.

It was the golf that I played earlier on our beautifully manicured course in readiness for this weekend's top amateur event which connected to the grass being mown and your mower in case you were wondering..

I watched the open and really wished I could play. (Golf that is, not the open).

I had thought you got paid even if you came last in The Open so would love to play it and make a few quid to make a fool of myself, sadly only those that make the cut get paid.

To even come "last" in The Open you still have to qualify through various stages of regional heats to get to play in the main event so I think that you would get some money for that.
