As the forum's sharpener-in-chief I have a knotty problem which you might be able to solve.

Would it be possible to sharpen my egg-slicer as it's just started mangling my hard-boiled eggs.

Perhaps if sharpening is not an option you could restring it with fine razor-wire.

I can help you with this one Uncle Ralph..............

Go buy a new one, ya tight old git

I'll have you know that there are other diaries where I can go and get insulted.

Are you aware of the libel laws in this country?

You might soon be hearing from my solicitors, Messrs. Sue, Grabbit and Runne.

Oooh, how do I like them eggs!

Was reading through a website and stumbled on this...

Quote
Moles be gone
To discourage moles, sink a line of glass bottles into the soil with about 1 inch of neck exposed. The whistling sound of wind blowing across the bottle tops disrupts moles’ sensitive hearing and hinders their ability to find prey. Poking several noisy toy windmills into the soil will also disturb moles, as the vibrations will drive them away.

Moles dislike garlic, so try dropping some crushed cloves into the run. You can also repel them with a castor-oil concoction. Mix 8 tablespoons of castor oil and 1 tablespoon of liquid soap in 1 gallon of water. Dig down into one of the critter’s runs, and pour the mixture inside.

We're into the second week of our Cornish camper holiday now and we're loving it to bits.

So far, we've been pretty lucky with the weather and the days have been mostly warm and sunny. It changed yesterday afternoon though, clouds, wind and rain. Strangely enough, it was one of the best days of the trip.

We parked right on the sea front, about a mile down the coast from Penzance. We were just outside the village of Marazion which gave us spectacular views of St Michael's Mount.

Apologies for picture quality. They were taken on my mobile phone, and mostly in bad light.

Apologies also for picture content. Most will be of no interest to you, they're priceless to me.

We woke to a huge storm. Wind whipping up the sea, buffeting the van and flinging rain across the windows like hands full of gravel.

Mrs Red, in bed with her morning cuppa, watching the storm.

We took the boat to St Michael's Mount when the tide was in during the day, and then, at dusk we walked along the beach and across the causeway when the tide was out.

Toppers in Sleaford or the little chippy on the edge of Long Sutton both highly commended - used to drive the A17 to visit Daughter and Grandkids and they were both consistently good.
Coastal - hard to beat the Magpie at Whitby.

Back on topic - Red, what did you make of the room full of Coronation chairs at St Michaels Mount?

and if you're close enough on your travels, I can recommend a visit to The Monkey Sanctuary just to the East of Looe

Didn't see the chairs David. Were they in the blue room? Perhaps they've been moved. Things are being shifted around to accommodate the guests for posh totty daughter Clemency St Aubyn's wedding.

The Fish Hut next to the fisherman's beach in Hastings.

A few places have access to the fresh catch - but that's the one who seem to have the highest standards in terms of every step including proper chips

Proper chips. Sooo subjective.

Proper chip shop chips for me have to be limp and greasy, whereas restaurant, "Steak & chips" chips have to be dry and crisp.

Grand Photos Tom!

Love Marazion, & St Michaels Mount.

Best chippy? Dunno about "best", but there's a half decent one in Hampton Court. I went there again the other day, & he told me why, when he puts the fish in the boiling oil, he slides it in oh-so-slowly & gently.....VERY important that.

Grantham Chippy Bird should do that, but she just chucks it in anyhow.

The plaice and chips at Rick Stein's in Falmouth was so good I wept when they took my plate away. When the waitress asked what I wanted for dessert I seriously contemplated ordering plaice and chips. Think they use dripping instead of batter and it is damn good.

Unlikely they use dripping instead of batter - but dripping is a key component in producing top quality fish n chips.
