Your video clip is fantastic Tom.
Thanks
Cheers Phil. Have you made any others or are you planning to do more? As I was watching it I suddenly thought of day trips to Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet with my parents when I was young.I used to stand in awe at the stories the actors would tell and it felt just like that.

It's so difficult to just put stuff out there Phil. Especially with copyright issues and all that. Eventually there will be a website where people can put their stories and pictures. At the moment I'm working on an exhibition that tells the story of the Porajmos (The Devouring) when Hitler and the Nazi party attempted (and almost succeeded) in liquidating all of Europe's Roma in the death camps. We lost over 80% of our entire population. but until very recently there was never any acknowledgement. Unlike other groups there was no apology, no compensation, not even a monument to the 500000 men women and children murdered in the death camps. We hope to have the exhibition ready in time for for Holocaust Memorial day on the 27th of January. | Click to see full-size image. |

Where will the exhibition be Tom, and when will the website be up and running. As you know I've read a lot about these attrocities but never realised about the Gypsy (or is it Romany?) losses until you mentioned it in a post.

It will probably be launched in the North East Kev, but then we're hoping to put it on at other venues around the country. Perhaps the middle of next year for the website, maybe sooner.

I've seen this clip before but you're right. It is incredible, and so touching. It brings a tear to my eye every time I see it.

My goodness Acid. What a stunning collection. One of the most comprehensive I've ever seen. Some real treasures in there. Is there any mechanism which would allow me to Access them, either as a member of the public or in my capacity as Heritage Officer for The National Federation of Gypsy Liaison Groups? PS- Didn't you tell me there were a lot of Photographs too?

Yes anyone can go visit and see a selection from the list. The best thing to do is look through what you want and email them your request and what you want to do with them, ie just read, photocopy, or look at for X reasons.. Special collections is in a seperate section and reading gallery in the library at University, open most of the time 9-5 if i recall and Saturdays until 1ish. I can ask for you next week or just email them via this page: http://library.leeds.ac.uk/special-collectionslots of photos they did an collection displayed at the uni last year with some of them

"Special collections is in a seperate section and reading gallery in the library at University, open most of the time 9-5 if i recall and Saturdays until 1ish."Does this mean I could just rock up during opening hours and have a browse? How would I get to see the photo's. Are there any plans to make them available online?

I can go ask them on monday for you Maybe ask them for all Certain type of stuff from x year to y for you to browse through? something like that. If its a fair few items / folders of personal items it is best to book a slot to come so they have it all ready for you (or atleast retrieved from the huge archieves). In theory thats any day of the week within opening times. Most of the stuff in special collections is not digitially recorded and put online yet. But some of it maybe, again I would have to ask them, not out of the realms of possibility as they must have used alot of them last year. If they are not online then you would have to come view in the gallery yep (I am not sure on the permissions for copying them etc.....)
