This girl divides our family.

Well, I say that, we all love her & Mrs Red hates her. But then she never did have good taste. (With certain exceptions of course.)

That Tracy Chapman album is stunning. Used to big with prisoners.
That's a weird fact! Why is that, do you know?

Perhaps it has something to do with the lyrics.

You got a fast car
And I want a ticket to go anywhere

Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose

You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here

You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way

I'd always hoped for better

I got no plans I ain't going nowhere......

I knew someone who got banged up at the time and he told me everyone in prison was listening to it.

My friend from school tried to demand chips in a kebab shop by producing a starting pistol and pointing it at the guy behind the counter.  Then got chased and rugby-tackled by a policeman who was close by to the incident and got jail time and banned from holding any replica gun of any sort for about 5 years.

He was very drunk (not an excuse) and it was on Kendal Torchilight Procession night.

I guess it's the melancholic feel to it?  Or just that it was very popular everywhere at time of release so why not prisoners too.

Smoochiest 'last dance' song ever.

A cover of a song by a great singer songwriter, and the leader of the best live band there is (IMHO):

Can't say the Pointer Sisters' version is to my taste, but I do love this cover of it:

http://www.pressherald.com/news/North-Pond-Hermit-suspect-in-more-than-1000-burglaries-captured.html

Report from the states of a hermit who spoke to one person, a hiker he met in 27 years, until the cops arrested him for the 27 years of burglaries he's done to get by.

I did like the quote after the hermit said he meditated and read to pass the time:

"I asked him, 'What kind of books do you read?'" Hughes said. "He said, 'Whatever I can steal.'"

Nowt as strange as folk.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Bruce!!!    Swoon
First saw him in 88 (folks said I wasn't allowed to skip school to see him in the Born In The USA tour in 85 Sad ).

Seen him in Birmingham twice, Sheffield, Dublin, Glasgow & Prague. Always a great concert.

Took Sara to see him in Prague, was her first proper concert, spoiled for anything else after that.

And what child of the 70's didn't steal the odd kiss whilst listening to this on the 8 track?

ME!!

The seventies had a lot of music to die for, but fair to say that Smokie didn't contribute much of it.

Zeppelin though...

Great lyrics, does it relate to prison enough to make it a cult album in there?
I was just wondering generaly what makes something popular to a certain group.
Oh and I forgot to add Sam Cooke and Dolly Parton to the list of 'everyone had one' tapes, I just think how did we end up listening to that stuff aged 14/15? You werent playing it!

Mrs Red: "I like everybody" (She's referring to singers now)

Me: No you don't.

Mrs R: Who don't I like?

Me: Steve Harley singing Mr Soft.

Mrs R: Yes, (Ponting finger at me) but I like songs!

One of my favourite albums from the seventies. Saw them twice, first time in Torquay 74 when this was charting. All tracks are excellent including Mr.Soft. Sorry Mrs. Red.

A promise made, a promise kept.  Simple concept, but Alex's small tribute to his father has gone worldwide.  Small world too.  He lives in Ohio...in a town not far from where we're moving to.
