I'm off down the car auctions. The sale isn't until tomorrow but perhaps I can slip into the office and see if I can get my hands on the keys so that I can have a proper sneak preview - pop the bonnet start the engine etc.

Blimey.  I've friends and family in America who are police officers and so far haven't lost any due to guns, but it's always a worry.  That said, guns aren't the only thing that can kill.  One friend died when a bad guy threw a pail of cement mix onto his head from six stories up.

Sigh, of course other things can kill police officers - including knives, bricks, fire, cars, bats, and simply kicks and punches.

Guns make it far easier to harm someone, and fatality rates are higher from being shot than from getting smacked in the mouth with a fist.

Please do not adjust your sets. There seems to be a temporary fault on The Kinboshi Channel.

Not sure that's directly responsible for the death of police officers all that often. I'm sure there have been report of lightning strikes on police in the deep South though attributed to his loftiness.

Is your phone still switched off?

I have had a Vodafone dongle for several years, I wouldn't dream of playing tourney's online without it as a backup.

A few days ago I was playing an online comp and t'internet went down. I plugged my dongle in and got a message "Not registered on network"

I rang support and they told me that the sim card in the dongle needed refreshing. They suggested that I pop into my local Vodafone shop to get it done.

I went to the shop and they looked up my account on the computer, then they 'refreshed' the sim card for the dongle.

I went home and tried it, but it still didn't work.

Rinse repeat twice more, each time having to drive into town, park, walk to shop, queue, explain problem.....

In the end, they replaced the sim card, it's working fine now.

Then I tried to ring someone on my mobile phone and discovered that it was no longer registered on the network.

With 20 minutes to go until closing time, I once again to drive into town, park, walk to shop, queue, explain problem..... Only this time I referred to a lot of body parts during my explanation.

They tried to tell me that they hadn't altered the settings on my mobile phone sim card, even though it sits right along side the number for for the dongle when you open my account.

Bollocks!

They must think I'm a ****.

Anyway, in answer to your question, No. My phone is no longer switched off.

Bridge watch update.

Was out a drive & stopped at Drumlanrig bridge again. I was a bit later and it was getting dark, so no feeding goosanders, but the heron was there. and I was lucky enough to stand on the bridge watching bats hunting insects along the river below. They swoop and dart below the bridge just like swallows and sand martins do in daylight. Being in my 40's with a liking for rock concerts I've no chance of hearing the bats like I used to, but they must have been making a racket the amount of them whizzing about.

Something disturbed the oystercatchers & a pair of sandpipers on their shingle bar, cause they kicked up an almighty racket - it was too dark to tell what it was but I saw something swim away - hope it was an otter, hope it wasn't a mink, both are known to live along the Nith.
