I've found a mate who would help me check out a bike if you need it done up here booder (he's a traffic cop who just sold his BMW & is going to Manchester to pick up another one on Saturday). just try and give me time to get it organised, really busy in the run-up to the referendum.

Yes , i have been keeping an eye on salvage bikes.Can pick up some real bargains if you don't mind fixing them up.Some have just cosmetic damage whereas some are totally destroyed,you just have to be aware of your limitations with regard to fixing them up.

I have a very basic understanding Tom.It is many years since i did any work on one but practically every bit of information you need can be found on the internet so it is not as daunting a task as it might have been twenty years ago.

+1 to that. Tinternet is fantastic for 'How to' info, and not just written instructions, but Youtube vids as well.

Great timing Red, as you posted this I was walking into A&E after being taken out at a roundabout by a van, thankfully I managed to lay it down instead of hit the f&%$er who pulled out on me, although I reckon with more experience I'd have stopped successfully...

Only superficial damage to the bike, and a broken hand to me, picked it up, moved it onto the pavement, popped the dislocated knuckle back in and rode it back to the dealer, new indicator and wing mirror needed. They were getting it ready to ride home when I noticed an extra joint in my right palm, just at the wrist. 6 weeks in plaster before I can go try again... Learning curve kinda steep.... Enjoyed the 2 miles I got, the mile back wasn't as fun...

Did you ask them to fit stabilisers when you returned to the shop?





Seriously though , glad that you are (reasonably) unhurt. Everybody takes a tumble at some point, i look at it as a reminder of how careful you have to be not only in the actions you take , but in anticipating the actions of other road users.I am pretty sure that next time you encounter a roundabout you will be just that little bit more vigilant.

booder- seeing as you've been looking at a Honda, have you considered the smaller version called a Deauville??

I had one for commuting but it would easily tour. Has a 650 V-twin engine and shaft drive which means no messing with chain cleaning/adjusting.
 If you look for one, the more extras that come with it, the better. Things like heated grips, 12v socket, touring screen, top box(all of which my bike had and were needed/very useful) as they get expensive to fit new but don't add much value to a bike if fitted. A quick peruse on Autotrader brings this up-

They all have higher than usual mileage for a bike of it's age but given that it's built for mile munching, to be expected. Just make sure they have lots of stamps in a service book. Any questions fire away or PM me.

Cheers mate, got to expect a slagging for the inauspicious start. It's not put me off in any way, I'm just annoyed at myself...

TBF yours is the cleanest joke so far, I'd my dad making the did you break the (w)hole finger, or the one next to it while waiting to get the cast put on, and a Glasgow mate when I said how right handed I was and how awkward having broken it was, dryly said 'at least it'll do your eyesight good'....

Yeah, car roadsense isn't enough... but experience is needed to get bike sense. I've 6 weeks to wait to start again.

Hi Mr Mohican . Funnily enough the Deauville was one of the bikes on my list and i had a test ride on one a few weeks ago. Tbh i was a bit underwhelmed with it, i found it surprisingly heavy and a bit underpowereed.
