Is it a box for forcing rhubarb?  Those things on the side enable you to get to the rhubarb without opening the lid?  Wild guess, just had some forced rhubarb the other day and it was very good.

The last line in that article is a teaser. "fire spreading behavior has ---- been recorded on film".
