I think we should have a whip round and buy Mrs Red a video camera so she can film Red when he gets the urge to indulge in his "man about the house" escapades

Another entry for the Best of Red thread!!
Hope you don't mind Red, but that's been copied and sent to some non-poker playing friends, it's a cracker!

I can't wait for tomorrow night's £300 at
dt
d
. I haven't played any live poker since last Sunday at Walsall and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms. What's more, I've had a bad week online and I'm ready for night off.
My bill for a completely blank week online is around $3500 so I can't afford too many of those.
Two hands stand out in my mind from last week online, one was a bad beat, and the other was a bad play.
The bad beat was just shy of the money in the Laddies $100 re-buy. I was in great shape, with about 15 left I was lying 3rd when I found pocket jacks.
Jacks are not my favourite hand, especially when I have good chips. I had no intention of getting myself into trouble with them at this stage of the comp, so with one limper already in, I made a strong raise from mid position. Everyone folded except for the limper, who just made it up.
Already I didn't like it, from now on I was playing this hand with extreme caution.
The flop came 3 J 5 two spades, but still I was wary. This guy had me outchipped and from what I had seen of him so far, he was a real loose cannon. He checked, and I fired out a pot sized bet. If he was flushing, I wanted him to pay for his draw, he smooth called.
The turn card came a wonderful 3 of hearts. He checked, and I checked behind him thinking "Go on, hit your flush now, you fish!"
The river came a 9 of spades and he came out betting, I paused long enough to dance a little jig, and then re-raised him a goodly chunk. He pushed all in, and I called immediately.
One of my gripes about Ladbrokes software is that showdowns are on the screen fo a fraction of a second. I didn't see what he had and I almost fell off my chair when the chips went his way instead of mine.
I looked in the chat box to see his hand. Pocket threes!
The hand I played badly was so awful that I can't get over it, and I can't bring myself to talk about it.

Ages since I played Ladbrokes .....can't believe they haven't "solved" this problem....VERY annoying.

As luck would have it, the roof of the caravan is a double-skinned affair, and the outer section is a sort of thick flexible rubberised membrane, a bit like the vinyl roof on a car. If I could roll it back and nail it into place, we should be OK.
In case of an emergency like this, I had some roofing nails carefully stored in a large trunk, along with millions of other nails of assorted shapes and sizes. It was the work of a mere 40 minutes or so to get the amount I needed. Then I grabbed my big ladder and ran out of the shed.
Unfortunately, My big ladder wont fit through the shed door sideways. When it hit the door jamb, it came to a sudden stop. Somersaulting gracefully over it, I continued on my journey, until I too was brought to a halt by the pressure of lawn on my face.
Having managed to climb on to the roof at the still good end, I stood up to survey the damage. This was a mistake. The wind caught my lean frame and blew me over the apex and off the other side. This wasn’t as dangerous as you might think, my roof is only about 8 feet high, and I landed in wet grass. Never the less, at times like these, training takes over. I executed a neat commando roll just like I had learned to do while reading all those SAS books. As I climbed the ladder for the second time, I wished the SAS books had warned me against doing a commando roll with half a pound of roofing nails in my back pocket.
By pushing the roll of peeled back material along with the top of my head and nailing it in place as I went, I eventually managed to get the roof fixed back into place. Midway through the procedure, a particularly strong gust blew the ladder over. As it fell it severed an ornamental outside lamp from the wall like a guillotine, blowing the electric, leaving me stranded, and Mrs Red totally cut off from Dale Winton and Supermarket Sweep..
She ventured outside to replace the ladder and told me that I was doing the work of two men. Unfortunately, according to her, the two men were Laurel and Hardy.
I must remember to get her to suck the poison out of these puncture wounds.

Hard luck with the online run. Hope it picks up next week for you. In the meantime, make sure you kick some backside at DTD!
Speaking of backsides...puncture wounds sorted yet?
That was a BRILLIANT read!!!

Tom I have found that if you uncheck the "muck losing hands" box the showdowns last much longer.

Really Ralph? That's great, I'll give it a try.
The high speed showdown came as a side effect of an upgrade about 2 years ago. I've spoken to them about it several times since then, they always say a fix is on the pipeline, but if thats the case, it must be a very long pipe.
I've been playing a few comps on ipoker recently, they are starting to offer some really well structured multis and the fields are definitely softer than they are on Laddies.

I've been playing a few on there too, usually the $45k gtd $50R at 7.45pm.
Managed last two tables in the $200k and the $100k in the last few weeks but keep falling at the last fence.

Mrs Red, along with my sister Susie and the rest of the girls have all chipped in £60 each and managed to get a two day mini-break in London, including hotel and a west end show. (Great value eh?)
They've just left, all talking and laughing at once.
If you're down the smoke this weekend and you see them coming, just keep your head down until they've passed.
So, it's just Kizzy and I for a couple of days. we're off to the shops in a minute, which means I have to pass my favourite cafe. What a breakfast they do, and there's always a treat for Kizzy who waits in the car.
None of that today though, I'm on a diet remember.
I might bring Kizzy to
dt
d
on Saturday, if I can get her a membership card.
I think she's due for a new teething ring btw, the old one is looking a bit worse for wear.

Agreed - and if they cooked from scratch instead of buying processed foods there would be a lot more money to go around - and it would be healthier.
A lot of people wouldn't know what to do with pearl barley these days - I used to love it in stews. Yummy.
For dinner tonight I'm making Irish Stew with some
pearl barley
chucked in and parsley dumplings - can't wait
Decent Chub bait that Red. Size 14 hook 'll do the trick, best in autumn.

River Trent, Kellham Hall. Up under the trees where the water flows fast and shallow. Processed cheese, 1oz "coffin" ledger, size 12 hook.
Most enjoyable fishing ever. Well... after spinning for pike and tickling trout that is.

How about it Mr Yong? She's a great little player, but when she has a good hand, she wags her tail.
