If you had ever seen one of these used, you would remember it.

You'd need to be even older than Tikay to see one of these being used...

it's a fleam.

Once again, I need to know how you know?

So what's this then?

Yes, I have used one, and no, it'd not a butt plug.

This young chap was introduced to me today. He's a Newfoundland dog. They are bred to rescue people from the sea and haul in fishing nets.

They are superb swimmers and can easily tow a dingy with several adults aboard, even in a heavy swell. On land they are also used for pulling carts.

When I was a little boy, I read a book about a Newfoundland. I was totally captivated by it, and have had a fondness and fascination for the breed ever since. The book title was "The Dog Crusoe" I've just googled it and amazingly, it's here, free to read.

At 2 years and just over 11 stone, this one is still a baby. (He actually looks like a grizzly bear on a lead)

Aint 'e 'ansome?

It would vary from dog to dog Ralph, but a working adult would probably need around 4-6 cans a day with an equal quantity of biscuits.

(I'm sure Tighty said he had one)

With booder, no place is really unlikely.

It that one of the things they use to bleed horses? <Rod tries hard to remember his James Herriot books>

I got the choke gauges, and knew the other things were cutters/crackers of some kind, but the fleam had me.

Here's one for you Red. Was ist Das?

Yep it is, as for yours... sofa's reply sounds plausible - though no idea personally.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think it can't be for archery.

I stand corrected... 'finger protector for longbow archers'

Yep - archery tab as used on traditional style (ie no release mechanism, none of those modern type nonsense bows). The second & third fingers go through the holes, the top tab goes between the index finger and the string, the arrow nock in the gap, and the bottom tab protects the 2nd and 3rd fingers (if you make it right if you make your own badly, as I did, the setup's all different Wink )

Red's latest one - it look's too short to swab the bore on a rifle/shotgun, but could be for pistol I suppose.

I think the newfie has webbed toes where the Bernese being a mountain dog won't. They are both beautiful big dogs though.
