These are the grandkids that distracted me while I was telling Rantor's story yesterday. They took me for a walk...

Ive probably missed the answer to this some where, but why do you still buy horses?
Is it to train them and sell them on for a profit?
As i presume you have no practical us for them anymore?
Just curious really.
Do you mean me in particular, or Gypsies in general?
I was really meaning you, as I can understand quite a lot of Gypsies still use horses for transport which i pressume you dont anymore.
And living near Stow I still get to see lots of Gypsy Horses and Carts that are used for transport.
Ps- just logged onto Ble Sq, concetrate on that, my answer can wait!
I rarely, if ever buy horses these days, but I do enjoy looking after other peoples now and then. The ones that they bring are often the ones that need a little extra care, They may be underweight, or nursing an illness or injury, or they may be a little bit wild or shy, and in need of handling.
Actually, Gypsies don't use horses for transport these days, they use them as a form of currency. Tony explained it very eloquently somewhere on this thread, I'll try to find it for you.

Couldn't find Tony's piece, but here's a rough explanation from the "Stow Fair" thread.

Tom, I had an interesting conversation with my dad last week about my nieces and nephews.
Would you say as a Grandad that your grandkids make you feel older or younger?

They make me feel old, and they make me feel young. They make me feel a lot of other things too.
I show them things, and I tell them things. I try to teach them about their heritage and their culture. I try to teach them to appreciate life and the world around them. They listen to me with wide eyes, and I feel important and useful.
I tell them to do something, or to stop doing something, and they say "Yes Grandad" and I feel respected.
I take them for a walk, and we paddle in a brook, or make pea shooters, it will be their first time. I see it through their eyes, and I feel young again.
I remember that I've already done all this stuff with their parents when they were children, and I feel old.
I look at one more generation of Gypsies, still living the old way, learning the old values, and I feel proud.
I look to the future, and I realise that they, like everyone else, will have to face heartache and sorrow, and I feel scared.
I look at my grandson Tom, striding out with his dog and his catapult, and I feel like it was all worthwhile.

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be very few house flies this year?
I only mention it because there's one tormenting me at the moment and I think it's the first one I've seen this year

Going back to houseflies for a moment. According to Wikipedia
It is possible to confuse a fly's evasion system by swatting it with two objects simultaneously from different directions.
Also
The holes in a fly swatter minimize the air current that warns the fly as being hit, whilst reducing air resistance and increasing speed of the swat.

Are you trying to put off the strimming by any chance?
