Anyway, can we go back to Google Chrome? That means we're talking about it on all of the Big 3 Diaries (no offence to the other diaries that are just as good, but are simply smaller).
Does it want to control everything like Firefox 3?
I think you're confusing Firefox 3 and the government.
(What does Firefox 3 want to control?)
"A continuously updated list of attack-sites tells
us
when to stop
you
from browsing"
..and your anti-virus software does exactly the same to protect your computer from being attacked when it detects a malicious piece of software. Why shouldn't your web browser do exactly the same?
Do you know if a web site is harmful to your computer?

No, and I understand your point, but if you read the Firefox 3 blurb it says things like "Takes care of everything" and "We stop you browsing"
It's like those programmes that automatically give you an new toolbar that you didn't want and didn't ask for, or the "Untick this box if you don't want to receive promotional crap" Or when you advertise your car for sale, you have to say "No tele sales" or every motoring website in the word rings you and offers to sell your car for you.
You should have to opt in before they can send you stuff, not opt out to stop them. (The only exception being organ donation, you should automatically be included in that unless you opt out, but you're not)
Everyone you speak to these days wants your name, address, telephone number and email, WTF?
I want Firefox as a browser, someone else already has my firewall and anti virus business.
The thing is, they want exclusivity, and I don't want to be strongarmed into giving it to them.

They've actually built their reputation on being more secure than IE, and this is just an extension of that really.

Look at Firefox 3's security features in the same way as you might look at an airbag, ABS, seat-belts, etc. in a car. You don't 'need' them if you drive carefully - but if you make a mistake, they're a safety net to stop you doing something stupid that you'll regret.

But I don't want their security, and they are pushing it down my throat.

Or like a full face crash helmet that you have to wear inside their car. Undoubtably safer, but would you buy the car if you had to wear it?

Well I've never set off the security features in FF so I don't think it's like that. You're a bit shafted if you don't like it though as all the major browsers have similar features now. You could stick with an old browser, but I'd think that would be very risky long term.

Yes. That statement conveys my point nicely.

I would if it was an Ariel Atom or a Westfield.

And if Firefox 3 could give me the secret of eternal youth, I'd accept their damn security package, but as my old grandad used to say, "You might as well wish on the one hand and shit on the other and see which gets fulfilled first"

I guess the answer is Red you can always turn it off.
Or, as FF is open source, get into the code yourself, remove the bits you don't like and surf around in your custom browser.
Although I doubt you'd notice it, even if it was left on.
