My grandaughters Alisha and Leonie, age 4 & 7 (approx) were playing outside when someone noticed this duck that they had made using pebbles on the tarmac. Good innit?

The jackdaws have found the bird feeder. I love the crow family, especially jackdaws.
Still pics just don't show what a bunch of delinquents these bad boys really are.

Wow ! You're getting quite good at this photography lark Tom, you got a new camera or summat ?
That last one where we can see the seed in the scoundrel's beak is a cracker, but my favourite is the chap sitting on top.

My problem at the moment Ralph is that I'm photographing them through glass, and it lends the pics a bluish tinge, a sort of haze if you will. Still, they're better than nothing.
How are you anyway, still scalping them on Tilt and Laddies?

Just got this from Tonji. It made my day.
Hi Red,
Remember the E H Shephard Gypsy illustrations I posted a while ago on your diary. Well I found the book they were illustrated for; a Book of Childrens' Verse by E V Lucas (from 1925 I think), to accompany the following poem.
The Happy Gipsies.
The ordinary merchant
Lives just as you or I;
His house is made of brick or stone,
His rooms are warm and dry;
And if we want his merchandise,
On foot or in a bus
We journey to his shop, because
His shop won't come to us.
But basket-making gipsies
Consider people more;
They harness horses to their house
And bring it to your door;
And in the shelter of the trees
It stands when day is done -
A kitchen, bedroom, workroom, shop,
And nursery in one.
The land is theirs to rove in,
From Cumberland to Kent,
Without the sameness of a street,
The weariness of rent -
They've every day another ride,
Another town to see,
And, in the shade beside the road,
Another picnic tea.
(All spelling as the original).
Anyhow, I hope this is of interest.
All the best to you & your family, all well I hope.
Regards,
Tonji

my word - I just got to the end of page 28 (moving onto the land in 2001) and realised there are 340 pages to go before I get to now, and there will hopefully be another 20 after that before I read in real-time
I was lucky enough to get to sit at the same table as you last Firday at DTD and how I wish I'd stayed there longer.
btw - reading all this has had a beneficial effect on my bankroll too - I've had a 10c/20c table open while I read and it's taken really good cards to get my eyes away from your writing.

Hi David, tyvm for the kind words. come and say Hi next time and I will buy you a cuppa.
I'll be surprised if there are another 20 pages. I've been struggling to write anything just lately for one reason or another. Still, you never know, I'm absolutely rim ram full of boring tripe and it has to come out somewhere.

Hi Chip, Thanks for the links, and while I'm at it, thanks to everyone else who sends me Gypsy related stuff.
I often wonder though, how do you come across it?

I used to attend a lot of local authority cultural awareness training days as a guest speaker. One of the things we used to do to break the ice was to give everyone in the audience a few post-it notes and ask them to write down (Anonymously) in one word or a short sentence, the first negetive thing and the first positive thing that came into their heads when they thought about Gypsies. Then we would stick them all up on a board and discuss them.
it was amazing how often the same things came up.
Can you guess what the 6 most common answers, (3 negetive and 3 positive) were?
Go on, have a go. List as many as you like. First one to include all 6 wins a prize.
PS- Don't worry, you can't offend me, and anyway, you're guessing what other people said.
