& lol at the really? report him brigade.
sigh - I was trying to convey in a way that didn't give it away that I 'got' it. Was obviously too subtle though - I hate having to explain posts!!!!!

Mobile phone? Surely you could just shout "I want food" and they'd hear you in the kitchen?
Sadly, the time when women spent their days in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant, is long gone.

Thought you might like these pics Tom. Last Friday Me and Joo moved my son into his flat in Wimbledon ready to start his new job. We decided to make a weekend of it and had a fantastic time.We were walking to St.Pauls from the stop before Blackfriars station as Blackfriars was closed for maintenance work. Thankfully because we stumbled upon this gem of a boozer. The Blackfriars pub was built on the site of a monastery hence the name but was almost demolished in the 60's but thanks to John Bechamin it was saved. Look at this stunning interior of wood, alabaster, marble ang carvings, not to mention great ale.
I couldn't get a photo of the outside of the Blackfriar pub because there were a lot of barriers about due to road works so I borrowed this pic from google. Look at the outside of this beauty, the only art nouveau pub in central London.

Great pics Kev. I've seen several street corner buildings with that wonderful "Flat iron" shape.
I always notice them now, ever since I learned that behind the top front window, there is always a tiny room which holds a beautiful girl prisoner.
Look carefully at the picture. Right near the top of the railings, you can just about see her silhouette behind the curtains. Can't you just feel her eyes on you, willing you to break down the door, take her in your arms, and carry her off into the moonlight?

Radiocarbon dating. I don't quite understand how it works, so I looked on Wikipedia and now I'm more confused than ever.
Can someone please explain it in simple terms? Pretend we're having dinner and the salt cellar is the radiocarbon or something...

Just think half-life Tom.
It's in that new Bryson book, too, ASHONE.
PS - No, I ain't got the faintest idea, which makes reading about it over & over again almost compulsive. It's all a bit above me, I'm afraid.

A certain % of carbon is a radioactive type which degrades.
The % of this in the atmosphere is pretty constant.
When something dies it has the radioactive carbon in it at this %.
As the carbon degrades the % drops.
You can calculate how long it would take for the carbon to decline to that % and figure out how old the thing is.

Yes, yes, exactly.
