Right here's the situation folks, I left my job on March 14th, I had a new job lined up to start on the 25th of March, but the job fell through unexpectedly, when I left my previous job I burnt my bridges by having a go at my gaffers gaffer.  Anyway that was bye the bye, I have been looking for a job since then and I signed on on the 30th of March, I was under impression having spoken to job centre plus that my claim could be backdated to the 14th of March - but suprisingly this is not the case.

Last few weeks have been tough and I have been really skint, I was offered a job other day which is starting pretty soon so I went to the job centre today with the intention of signing off, yeah great we can do that.  I mentions to the guy that I'd be needing some sort of grant or indeed a crisis loan as I'd have to get some new clobber for starting the job also mentioned that I'd need some help with funds for transport for the first month untill I got paid.  It was like an episode from Little Britain (Computer Says No/Only Gay In The Village rolled into one), he looked at me - looked at his computer says no can do, in a smarmy effeminate Glaswegian accent, I replied with well what do you suggest I do refuse the job?  He has the cheek to say thats upto you, I retort with well your not making things easy for me here, I want to get back to work but in order for me to do this I need the proper attire and the money to travel to the job til I get paid.

I ask what my options are he says you can go speak to one of the Floor Managers downstair, so off I go speak to the manager he says sorry you haven't been unemployed long enough for us to help you need to be unemployed for 6 months - government legislation he says.

Really whats the fu**ing point in trying to get yourself back on your feet, society rewards the lazy, the junkies the alcoholics anyone who actually has the will to go out and work is penalised.  What a fecking joke.  So there you have it blondes if anyone finds themselves out of work make sure you wait 6 month before seeking help from Job Centre Plus.

I thought you were self employed, running a tipping service/line.

Seriously though, I wish you good luck in your new job.

system's been like this for a long time mate. if you're claiming benefits for long enough they'll keep paying your rent for a couple of months as a reward when you start work but if you get off your backside and find something straight away you get sweet FA

about time they privatise the whole thing

good luck sorting yourself out fella

as i too have also just been recently unemployed i went to the job center. I have been in engineering all my life so what do they do. they put me on a food hygene course where you have to do 6 days of english and maths 1st. Although along time ago i passed 6 olevels which the 19 yr old girl taking the course informed me they are now useless. I try the agencies every day but they have nothing now. Ive heard if agency give a job to eastern european they get advertising paid for as long as they keep them in work for 12 weeks. A agency boss told me this but dont know if its true. Hope you get back on your feet soon m8 cheers steve
