- What are the rules of bar poker? Is this something I could specialise in?

Rules of bar poker: You sit at the bar and you cannot mention anything to do with poker. Saying "I run bad" or the word "Bluff" will result in a shot of sambuca. I came up with this game when I was so sick of people talking about poker and it really works!

Bloody good idea!  I assume it's not limited to just those specific phrases?

No, I heard it also includes the phrase "I have the 7 of diamonds, and he had the 6!". Just those 3 phrases. No more Wink

byronkincaid-
which sites do you play cash games on?

For the last few months pacific and blue square (not so much blue square)

boldie-
spin up, or tight bankroll management?

Spin up = busto. Tight bankroll management it is. Unless of course you have a very good income and can afford to "spin up" often.

LeKnave-
Do you play many loldonkaments online?

Yes, but not so much lately.

What online tournament standard would you compare a gukpt to? what about an ept?

Gukpt's are pretty damn soft- you get a lot of "averagely poor" players whilst in an EPT you tend to get a lot of solid players with a few chip spewers. I'd compare an EPT to maybe the $100r on stars (quite tough). I can't quite think what I could compare to the GUKPT.

Do you think most online torny pro's would crush the aforementioned live tournaments?

Live donkaments are so different to online donkaments. If the online tourney pros were smart and determined they could probably adapt very quickly. Most would drop out earlier though because of the change in pace (1 hand per 2 minutes, 10 straight non-cashes = 1 month not 1 day).

GreekStein-
Would you consider teaching poker? If so how much would you charge someone who wanted your services?

Yes I would, I gave someone a very cheap coaching lesson to see if I would enjoy teaching and I did. I would probably charge $250 an hour as pokertracker tells me I earn more than that. Anything less than $250 an hour and I may as well play poker!

How do u deal with tilting?

I read the mindset of poker which helped a ton. Really if you teach yourself that making good moves is making you money rather than looking at outcomes it's actually quite difficult to tilt. I don't think I've tilted for about 3 months now, but if I ever feel slightly frustrated I generally go up to the practice are of my golf club and smash the hell out of some balls. Lately I've not been doing too well which just means I avoid the computer altogether.

Surely I'm not allowed to answer this one! I would have to say I am more successful online because Pete and Lucy hardly play online. Who knows about live.

Yeh, you make the rules if you bring the game up. In 20 minutes I think I bought Stu Rutter about 8 shots of sambuca. He literally cannot stop talking about poker sometimes!

Sigh at the days of me playing on pacific. Was making 14ptbb/100 at 10/20nl over 45k hands. That's 28bb/100. I sure can even beat 2/4 online now.

Playing off 6.5 atm, I play less and less golf every year although this year I played most of my golf with the same 3 guys, 2 of whom play off 2 and +2. For those of you who don't know what +2 means, it means they are shit hot!!!! Has probably helped my game considerably.

I'm just not good enough to get much better. I think I could get down to 5 in my lifetime again, but that would be the limit. How I see it is:

18+ handicap: 3 rounds a week for a year would get you to this standard
12+ handicap: 3 or more rounds a week for 12-24 months with possibly some coaching thrown in
9+ handicap: As above but play more. Playing with better players will always get you there quicker.
7+ handicap: Getting to the good stage, not many people get this far. Can get here in as little as 2 years but will need some serious dedication. Starting younger helps
4-5+ handicap: Getting very sick now, 4 years minimum and that is rare. A bit of natural ability needed at this point as well as some serious dedication.
1+ handicap: In the elite of amateur golfers, about 2-3 per decent golf club exist of 2 or better handicapped players. As a guess, maybe 50 amateur golfers per county have a handicap of 2 or better. Natural talent starting to gleam here.

Any better than 0 is getting to the super elite, a lot of pro's turn pro when their handicap is around the +1-0 mark. If you were to watch my friend who plays off +2 for a few holes you wouldn't think he is as good as a +2. He isn't a very big hitter, he also just has a very simple swing but hand to god, he is as good as tiger at putting outside of 10 feet. He'd give the best chipper in the world a run for their money too, quite extraordinary to watch. He's mentally difficult to play match play against because you can never relax, when he has a putt from 60 feet with a ton of break you are always holding your breath when the ball is half way to the hole, everything looks like it's going in.

Yeah not unusual, a professional golfer on average is a very un-lucrative way to make a living. I had a friend who I played a lot with and went to school with that turned pro off +1 at about 20 years old. He wasn't the biggest hitters either but could tee two balls up and land them both on a picnic blanket. Couldn't putt for toffee though.

What also makes me chuckle is when I post a video of my swing or tell someone my handicap they say "WOWWWWW that's amazing!!!" and I just nod yet don't agree with them. I started golf at 13 and made a lot of friends through it, most of them surpassed me in ability yet we all played similar amounts. I see myself as just an average good golfer if that makes sense. I'll never win a club championship or break a course record. I've played over 1000 rounds in my life and shot under par once.

Here is my swing for the craic anyway:

stance looks quite wide. is it?

hard to tell from behind, went for my first lesson since i was 14 (22 now) the other week because im literally stuck around 18 handicap. Every year ill play to around 12/14 sometimes but more often 20/22. He recorded my swing and now ive been doing it a lot more at the driving range and its helping a lot. Your swing seems fast mine is to the guy who gave me a lesson said i swing as quick as the top pros but this is not great for me at the minute because i dont hit the ball like them.

I have a big problem with a "cricket swing" things that are good for my cricket are horrendous for my golf and its really hard to get that fixed. Was amazing first video he did of me my head was so still right over the ball but literally did not move a muscle. In cricket great, in golf not so much far to ridged. I was thinking in cricket your trying to hit a moving ball so keeping as many things still as possible is great but in golf obviously with the ball being still there is not as much need for it.
