'Into the Wild'.

Loved it, thoughts anyone?
Yeh really liked it. Looking back the lad was probably bit of a knob but it made a great film.

I feel like I'm doing this about a year out of sync, but I don't get to the cinema often, so the next in the series of Rex's the-wife's-buggered-off-out-again-so-I'm-stuck-childminding Blu Ray reviews is "Source Code", which I watched last night.

Immediate reaction when it finished was wow, that was a great film. Very emotive last few minutes, and a nice mini-twist at the end. Thought back on it after watching and realised that it's actually got quite a few plot holes in it (even assuming you suspend disbelief for the main premise). But that said, I'm still a big fan, and would definitely watch it again. Jake Gyllenhaal was excellent, performances from the rest of the cast ranged from very good to not particularly convincing (Jeffrey Wright as the uncaring head honcho was somewhat weak).

If you don't know the film, it borrows elements from the artificial/alternate reality genre; The Matrix, Inception, etc, with elements of Groundhog Day. Reminded me a bit of Run Lola Run as well. With something of a whodunnit/thriller mixed in. Well written, nicely paced all the way through, I thought it pulled me in very nicely - you were trying to work out what was going on at the same time as the main character was.

Liked it a lot, 8.5/10.

Yeah I really liked it.

(Trivia : the guy who dropped him off in the truck and gave him his boots is the actual guy who did the same thing in real life).

If it's the one I think it is then yes it's really good.

Is it the one with the moose?

That's the one.
Spoiler.
From what i read, the poisoning was just added for dramatic effect, in fact he died of 'rabbit starvation', being active in trying to find food, burning up energy faster than he could locate resources.
Soundtrack written by Vedder of Pearl Jam

Mission Impossible 4 - got slightly meh in the last third but up until that point it was up with Casino Royale as best Bond film.

Girl with Dragon Tattoo - pretty good, suffered slightly because it was a bit too obviously Fincher-lite, and also because the trailer was tremendous.

Shame - utterly magnificent, Fassbender robbed of his Oscar nomination. McQueen should really have got a Best Director nod as well - the atmosphere and pacing was tremendous.

Hopefully seeing The Artist tonight.

I went to see the War Horse last night here.

"The Rex, Elland is one of the oldest purpose built, structurally unaltered cinemas in the country. It was built in 1912 and opened as the Picture House on 12 December that year."
Thought it was a decentish film a tad cheesy in parts. But then this was the first time I have stepped foot in a picture house since The Doors was screened about 21 yrs ago.

I thought it was excellent if a little slow in pace. Gary Oldman's George Smillie was great.

Think Tighty first mentioned it. Moneyball was fantastic, abso loved it. Can't believe that way of thinking came in so late. When i read the synopsis i just assumed it would be set in the 60s or 70s.

The Help - fantastic film! Shows the world through the eyes of a black maid in America in the 60s and one woman's struggle to get their views heard.

Oscar-bound double header yesterday, The Artist followed by The Descendants. Disappointaments.

Some chav stomed out of The Artist after about an hour giving it 'This is shit' so the rest of us could hear. Not that bad tbf. I did fall asleep twice though. Dog good. Volume not loud enough to cover the popcorn rustlers. Film 7/10, Uggie the dog 10/10.

The Descendants is basically Sideways-On-Sea. Unmistakably Alexander Payne. 3x5sec scenery shots at regular intervals. 70% Sideways, 20% Little Miss Sunshine, 10% Juno. But nowhere near as good as any of them. 5/10.

It's George Clooney's turn for an Oscar and this is a bit of a case of trying to buy one. He was so not right for the role. Should've been Paul Giamatti again. Not as good as Sideways the bottom line. What's the director been doing for seven years? Killing time till he could make the same film but in Hawaii imo.

Twilight saga, breaking dawn - Part 1.

Too much lovey dovey, wishy washy emotional bollocks. Not enough werewolves fighting vampires.

Absolute crock of shite. Avoid at all costs.
