I saw Jack reacher last night too, gets about 4/10 for me.It's just been done so many times before and had a bit if a ridiculous ending really. He killed everyone he wanted to and most of the people on his side ended up dead yet they did one of those ' our savour' bits at the end.

Was made even more ridiculous by watching seven psychopaths again str8 after tho as almost every cliche they point out is in the Reacher film.

Reacher was competent enough, just above run of the mill

Will always suffer in my mind from the casting of Cruise as 6ft5 blonde 50 something (in the books) Reacher, but he bought the film rights and produces it, so I suppose he gets waht he wants

Nothing startlingly original in this, but then again I have read the books so knew the plot in advance

Average fight scenes, routine car chases, a denouement you could see coming from several cities away

Probably struggles a bit with so many action films pushing the boat out on all the thrill and spills these days

6 tighty stars out of 1o

He's in his 40s in the books, but casting Cruise fks it completely imo.
Lee Child has to take the blame there for taking the easy money. He's a guaranteed no 1 seller with every title too, so not like he needs the money

how good are the books?  bought my (12yrold) the 1st book as a stocking filler, due to the film being out and advertised.  He (and me) likes the new bonds fillms, and the bourne films, and it looked in that kind of theme.

Never heard of him or Lee Child books before it has to be said....

If it was  One Shot, which the Reacher film is based on it's not the first book, just where they are starting the film franchise from.
Supermarkets have several of the books on sale atm, usual 2 for £7 or similar.
As Tighty said, very good books that are well paced

Thought Life of Pi was just ok. Went on too long, and without the visuals it would have been pretty boring. So grumpty at the cinema these days.

Life of Pi.
I just can't bring myself to watch it. I'm one of the few who hated the book.

The book was cool because there was a lot of symbolic meaning. I thought the tiger Richard Parker represented Pi's instinct to survive and the savage side of him. Did he eat his own mother to survive? and did he need the tiger inside to push himself to do that? In the film he's just on a boat with a tiger. When the symbolism is lost the actual story becomes really weak.

Life ofPi *SPOILER*

He didn't eat his own mother, she was eaten by sharks after being stabbed and going overboard. I think he may have ate the cook though.

I watched it in 3D and was well worth it, 3D must be a lot better nowadays, it worked really well and the film was quite beautiful. The revelation at the end twists your gut a bit, I'm not sure if just having everything as it appeared would have been better though.

Dont watch a lot of films, mainly because of a hatred of sitting in Cinemas with others. But I finally managed to get around to watching 'The Big Lebowski'. I have to say it was a  most enjoyable film. Any recommendations for more slightly left field films like this?

O brother I've seen but not the other two. Sounds like a recommendation for them?
