He's no Denzel Washington

Has he made a decent film since American Gangster?
Book of Eli and Unstoppable wiped from memory.

I liked book of Eli, agree Unstoppable was poor though. Haven't seen Flight yet but hoping it'll be good since he's up for an Oscar, massive Denzel fanboy.

Jumper and Sphere both pretty awful. Obviously Snakes and Sharks both tez.

Only thing that made any of these even remotely watchable was Samuel L.

Definitely one of my favourite actors.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower - perfectly cast and hard to imagine how it could have been any better. Emma Watson outstanding, which is a surprise after that string of Harry Potter efforts. 9/10 imo.

The Sapphires - Chris O'Dowd carries the film. How many comics given a TV break by Graham Linehan have gone on to better things? Rest of the acting pretty poor but it just about works.

Watched Looper, thought it was a fantastic and refreshing take on time travel. Joseph Gordon Levitt is surprisingly convincing as a young Bruce Willis. 8.5/10

Looking forward to Hitchcock

ARGO

Story of the American Embassy hostages in Iran in 1980 and of 6 of them that escaped into the city and the CIA attempt to extract them to safety.

Had been looking forward to this with all the Oscar hype. Directed and starring Ben Affleck ( MBN to direct and star ) whose turning out to be quite a decent director much to my surprise as he always looks like his not too sure whats going on around him. Enjoyed 'The Town' which he also directed

Attention to detail is superb with Affleck recreating real life news footage and intergrating it into the film and the costume props etc were spot on for the time period. Movie is well shot and slick and rolls along nicely... At the end I couldn't help but have a nagging feeling I was expecting more ( but I think this is more the subliminal hype i have allowed myself to be embroiled in ), I think we could have had a little more pre escape tension but overall a good solid watch

ok so I went to watch "Flight"

Enjoyed it, good character study from Denzel

Really the opening half hour is terrific..after that its a bit melodramatic and softer than it should be with a cop out ending, but anyway

Rant alert

Trailers

Without spoiling, there is one key bit in the first half hour that sort of "makes" the film. Dramatic to watch.

Why on earth include that in the trailer?

It continues a trend in trailers where (and I exaggerate a bit) you basically don't need to see some of the films if you've seen the trailer

they often contain the best jokes
they often contain crucial scenes

Trailers should tease, they shouldn't spoil

there's a trailer out at the moment for the "ironic" rom com "Worst year of our life" No kidding it contains every single best line in the movie. It's scandalous

Rant over

Flight was a solid 7/10

The trailers are often my favourite part of going to the flicks, but I think twice in the last three times I've been I turned to the missus after a trailer and said "we've just pretty much seen that film right now".

Looking forward to Hitchcock, I hope Anthony Hopkins can do as good a job as Will Smith did in the first one.

Zero dark thirty the choice unless anyone writes it off.
