The Shape of Water
This film defies simple description. Whether you are blown away or left cold by it depends on what you look for in a film. However, if you manage to avoid all the reviews (despite the fact that it's received a number of Oscar nominations) and just go see it, you'll witness a truly intriguing film that challenges all logic, but you still find yourself seeing it as a human drama rather than a sci-fi fantasy.
Oops, there I go trying to categorise it.
Guillermo del Toro, another David Lynch IMO.
9/10
Just seen it. Will go see it again very soon. As easy to categorise as Donnie Darko.

Speaking of David Lynch I watched Mulholland Drive last night. I forgot just how good it was although still slightly confused by the ending and how I interpret it.

In the film Empire of the Sun, why does Jamie craw through the swamp?

Red Sparrow
A rather sordid film, I thought. Unnecessarily cruel & nasty violence, sex scenes that would be better suited to S&M porn films. Not the type of film to take a date/wife/daughter to.

Unsane one of the best films of the year so far.
Had to leave the fens to watch it but worth the trip.

Three billboards outside Ebbing Missouri
Not a fajita Friday outing as such..more of.. a fatalistic stab in the dark at something I wasn't sure would be my shallow cup of tea... I'm happy to say my surprise was pleasant.
The tale of a gritty no nonsense mother trying to get the bumbling police department to find the muderer/rapist of her young daughter is a rollercoater ride encompassing some of the more extreme facets of our society.
It changes pace and direction at a moments notice keeping the viewer on their toes at all times.. one moment you can be laughing literally out loud..the next a darkness descends and the mood changes to one of revulsion or horror.
No subject is sacred.. we deal with rape..murder..cancer..racisim..domestic violence in quick order and a large dollop of crazy humour.
All in all a very good film despite the odd title.. I just longed for a touch more closure... but a solid 7.5

Seen both of the previous two films referenced above.
Both absolutely brilliant, and loved the ending of Three Billboards, the lack of closure is perfect. As for Unsane, just wow. Scary to think this stuff could be happening in RL.

Agree, the ending to TBOEM is pretty obvious.
Action junkies want to see them stab or shoot he'm though!

The Circle - Hanks and Watson - this is exactly where Facebook and Amazon want to be.
Not a great film but for conspiracy theorists it is great.

Blockers.
Just isn't funny. Not a single laugh in it. Swerve.

You must've been desperate to see a movie to choose this teen flick drivel, Chomps.
Faced with a similar dilemma, I went for Ready Player One - also to avoid parental embarrassment, since I went with my 20yo daughter....
Spielberg at the leading edge, I suppose, but not enough actual human performance and decent plot line to satisfy my own wish list from a film. However, if you like loads of SFX and crash bang wallop, there's plenty in this for you. Maybe even better for 12-18's than post-teens.

Yuh, no racing on. Needs must.
Probably would have anyway, as a Seth Rogen fan, but god it's awful.
On a par with Bad Neighbours, but that pile of poop got a sequel, so what do I know?

A Quiet Place
An early contender for my movie of the year.
Easily the tensest 90mins I have spent in a cinema. Saw it in a small 30 seat screen, £2.50 a ticket!
Emily Blunt and cast are incredible. Must be seen in the cinema.
5 stars.
