The technology that our guys and gals use is available to all the other major nations out there.

For once we're using it to the full rather than being plucky losers.

The advantage of the new suits is estimated to be to increase your time by about 2% - so you have to be pretty close to the old world record for it to make a difference.

Ah, so the suits actually slow the swimmers down...

increase/improve you can't really expect me to be paying attention after the first two letters of any wozl

Chris Hoy might be in for a shout as well - especially if he wins 3 golds.  Same for Wiggins.  In fact, if they both get three that'll mean it would be more likely Adlington will win.

Phelps/Bolt for overseas personality?

Times change.  I bet at the time people started wearing trainers some traditionalist of the time thought the new records were meaningless.  Technology evolves, it's great to see.

Seriously though high tech swim suits have made the previous WR's a joke

There were probably saying the same thing when goggles were introduced.
Or diving from blocks rather than the side of the pool.
Or spikes being worn on the running shoes
Or starting blocks being used in the running
...

The advantage of the new suits is estimated to be to increase your time by about 2% - so you have to be pretty close to the old world record for it to make a difference.

Did at any point i say i was against this technology? My point was its harder to win a Gold than set a WR in the pool atm!

Congratulations on the gold, not so much in beating a record 'that had stood for 19 years' its not the same race anymore so the times are irrelevant imo

There was a moment last week when I really wanted to transcend all the rules of metaphysics, reach inside my televison, and slap someone silly.

He was a member of the GB relay team after losing their race. They swam a PB, but came in last.

After they'd congratulated themselves on the time, a reporter asked how much difference the new suits were making in all the excellent times that were being logged.

"The suits don't make that much of a difference really, it's all the extra training we've been doing."

wtf!!

Previous to these Olympics, all swimmers of all nations have been only practising a wee bit, and eating cakes and shit. They all of them together decided it was time to start trying properly, definately not the suits.

Silly man, "all the extra training we've been doing."
You came in last, piss off and train some more.

lol yes i saw that and pissed myself laughing, really quite delusional, notice how none of his team mates backed him up...

Phelps/Bolt for overseas personality?

Phelps is just a boring machine.  Brilliant, but dull

Bolt has grabbed the world by it's collective rude bits and shaken them hard.

Personality ?  There's only one choice.

Personality is a bot of a misnomer though.  Look at some of the previous winners.

Agreed.

But wouldn't it be nice if they got it right, just for once.

Bolt will win that easy...nobody I know in the UK is talking about Phelps too much...Bolt on the other hand is the topic of conversation everywhere.

So sports personality of the year already sorted then? Unless Lewis H wins F1 or Andy Murray wins the US Open.

I have my money on Lewis, with a covering bet on Murray (just in case he flukes something), always had the risk of an Olympic winner but only hoping that the votes may be spread amongst the gold medal winners.

PS great win for Adlington.

Do they have a team personality of the year?

If so maybe they will have "Team GB" as a contender rather than say the rowing four or 3 blondes in a boat
