What a strange thread and how embarrasing to be a blonde I am at some of the remarks against a mighty fine swimmer. It is a darn good job looks are not required for males to play poker as it would almost be not not worth entering many tournies.
Agreed, just watched the recording of the final and superb win. PS Sharon Davies was on my plane and did she get your autograph? lol

Got to admire Rebecca for what she has achieved. British women haven't won a gold medal for over 40 years in the pool and this lass turns up, gets two and shatters a long standing world record in the mean time.
Total respect to her, amazing perfomance.

When I heard that she literally blew the competition away, I assumed it had something to do with hayfever.

+1 Shark suits turn it in to a different sport. Biggest farce since that British cyclist won a few years back with that Lotus bike. Can't even remember his name but I remember who made his bike. Smashed everyone to bits purely because his bike was better than everyone elses. Obviously he good pedal pretty fast as well but you get my drift.

Chris Boardman - he's actually involved with the GB cycling team now and did a similar thing this time. Started up a 'secret' project to design the bikes. Got top engineers from various disciplines (including Formula 1), gave them a list of the regulations concerning what consitutes a valid bike and said 'build me the best bike you can that doesn't break these rules'.

Times change. I bet at the time people started wearing trainers some traditionalist of the time thought the new records were meaningless. Technology evolves, it's great to see.

Was listening to im on the radio the other day, they even have special aerodynamic screws on the bikes, the detail is amazing.

There was a moment last week when I really wanted to transcend all the rules of metaphysics, reach inside my televison, and slap someone silly.
He was a member of the GB relay team after losing their race. They swam a PB, but came in last.
After they'd congratulated themselves on the time, a reporter asked how much difference the new suits were making in all the excellent times that were being logged.
"The suits don't make that much of a difference really, it's all the extra training we've been doing."
wtf!!
Previous to these Olympics, all swimmers of all nations have been only practising a wee bit, and eating cakes and shit. They all of them together decided it was time to start trying properly, definately not the suits.
Silly man, "all the extra training we've been doing." You came in last, piss off and train some more.

There were probably saying the same thing when goggles were introduced. Or diving from blocks rather than the side of the pool. Or spikes being worn on the running shoes Or starting blocks being used in the running ... The advantage of the new suits is estimated to be to increase your time by about 2% - so you have to be pretty close to the old world record for it to make a difference.

Ah, so the suits actually slow the swimmers down...
