Why shouldn't it be?  You didn't choose to be a catholic did you?  Does anyone have the right to decide you should be branded as belonging to one religion or another?

I would think so..in fact I can't see why it wouldn't be. Only the Jewish people have a genetic line that "makes you Jewish"...other faiths don't have this.

I was brought up as Greek Orthodox (Christened etc) and still consider myself Greek Orthodox even though I'm more sceptical than I am a believer.

I don't understand why people who don't believe in religions have such a gripe and a need to constantly challenge religion and let everyone know they think its bullshit. It's up to each individual. Thats why I get so fucked off when Jehovas Witnesses come knocking.

Believe in what you want to believe but leave it at that imo. It becomes grating when people constantly force the topic.

It makes you Jewish in the sense of the Jewish nationality/ethnicity

There isn't any Religion Gene which determines which faith you're born to.

As has been stated before - this is usually just imposed on you by your parents.

Dunno kin, I was asking a genuine question if it was that easy. I'm so far detached from it now I wouldn't know what the right terminology would be.   As to whether I chose to be a catholic, well at 14 I chose to be confirmed, and later in life made decisions to have a wedding in a catholic church and have my daughter baptised as a catholic so it all wasn't forced on me.

Well, someone asked for different views. I accept that I have a pretty extreme opinion. I am not trying to make an argument out of it.

yeah I think so.  20 years ago I'd have put 'catholic' down as my religion on a census form.  Nowadays i'd put 'no religion' or whatever the option is.  Just because I've been baptised and confirmed, doesn't mean I have to be branded for life.

This is pretty much my view on religion, everyone is entitled to their own view on it, there is very little chance of either side being proved right. The one thing I can't stand is people trying to impose their religious views on others.

So you agree that parents shouldn't impose their religious views on their children then?
