Wikipedia has had problems in the past with biased people taking ownership of pages and them being the exact opposite of "peer reviewed statements".

Would you use a one of the sit up machine things:

If you had one or just do them without?

...
I've done 4 short sessions this week and included planks in every one. I've been doing them with my feet elevated on a medicine ball just to add a bit of difficulty and I can't deny that they hurt like hell after not too long at all.
...

That reminded me a bit of the 'advanced' difficulty of the planks exercise in this section -
http://www.swimming.org/swimfit/fran-halsall-core-exercises/
- that has one leg raised at a time rather than both on a medicine ball

and then there's brutal...for that, click on that MMA workout link i pasted somewhere earlier.

Core strength is vital, it really helps with all your future exercises (Squats, push ups etc) as well.

I've used one of these before and they're really good so yes if I had one I'd use it.

Only problem with these is a lot of people use the bars to pull with their arms which isn't really the idea.

The frame is there just to give everything somewhere to rest whilst your abs are doing ALL of the work.

Fair enough. I'll stop using them then.

Something new is likely to be happening soon.

Following on from Lee and then Tom's partaking of the 3 peaks challenge I was very tempted to have a go myself.

I mentioned it to a friend of mine who I go dog walking with and she was thinking about maybe doing it with me.

Anyway a few weeks have passed and I'd kind of given up on the idea until last night she texts me saying she definitely wants to do it!!

So now I'm sort of stuck with it and it looks like I'm doing the 3 peaks walk.

So we now have an extra training element to throw in to this thread.

I need to be able to walk 30 odd miles up and down hills.

Any tips from anyone?

Maybe your friend would help you by wearing these and walking in front.

Get on the treadmill in the gym. Backpack on as well with approx 10-15Kg weights in it and set the incline to 15-18 degrees...so much for not doing any cardio. (Oh and get loads of calf muscle excercises in as they'll start hurting like a bastard if you're not used to walking/climbing etc.)

Obv you've been doing legs as part of your workout routine so you should be fine but focus on the calf muscle a bit...they'll take a pounding.

Don't bother with the sodding treadmill, go out and find some hills to walk up and down.

My initial plan was to do a combination of both.

I like the idea of the treadmill with a huge incline but I don't enjoy cardio training. As Boldie says, good game that 'cause I haven't really got a choice.

I'll be increasing Ronnie's walks but I can't do more than 5 or 6 miles with him because of his legs.

I'll also be changing his walks to put a few hills in there.

Anybody know of any decent hills around Nottingham?
