I'm sure its been addressed already on here, but what do all you meatheads recommend as decent snacks? Presumably protein based, but anything that can make you feel full without being loaded with calories.
I'm basically thinking of something simple I can knock up of an evening when I get a bit hungry. Its usually about 9pm that I start craving carbs (toast is usually the culprit).
Just had a boiled egg, which seems like a pretty decent place to start.
If you're trying to lose weight I'd strongly recommend not having any snacks.
If you absolutely must have something how about a bowl of cereal with skimmed milk?
Regrettably this is my biggest issue. I tend to have a decent day most of the time, in fact often pretty disciplined, but then in the evening I get big cravings, I have something like a bowl of cereal or toast, and then I have another. Usually its the carby stuff that sets me off, so for an ideal snack I am looking for something that can curb my hunger in the evening, so I am thinking something higher in protein, or at least slow release carbs.
Scrambled egg on a wholemeal pitta perhaps?
That's what I always used to have.

I'm going to get a bit serious again with all this training stuff.
The last couple of months have been very tough. Work's been ridiculously busy and I've been constantly tired which has made things really difficult.
Also I've been in desperate need of physio for at least a month and just haven't got round to going.
I'm intending to add a few lbs over the winter months and hopefully build my strength a bit as well.
I've got physio booked for tomorrow and will try to get there at least once every 3 weeks or so.
Diet wise I'm going to step up a gear and start to consume a proper bulking up diet. Ideally I'd like to add about a stone to get back to my former peak of 16st 10lb whilst very lean.
I might well go heavier than this before trimming down towards summer. Not quite sure how this will go yet though.
So the next few months is all about calories. I'll be aiming for about 5000 per day mostly through healthy calories.
I've bought a shit load of different protein type things which will all help to get where I need to be.
I'm going to have to start getting up pretty early as well in order to consume an extra meal. Probably going to be having something every 2.5 to 3 hours which is always tough.
It's going to take a little while to get in to this properly but for now I'll just try to get as many calories down me as possible.
One more protein shake now then it's off to bed.
Up at 6.30 to eat lots of eggs. Could be fun.

One thing I did baz to avoid snacking late in the evening was snap go to bed as soon as I started thinking I needed a little something to munch.

New routine is going well so far. To borrow a phrase off Cos........ Beastmoding!!!
I've been taking loads of extra protein through shakes as well as creatine and glutamine. Creatine has never worked for me before and I've never tried glutamine. Both of them came as free samples though so I thought I'd give them a go. Not sure if it's them that are helping but I'm feeling very strong at the moment.
I finally managed to get to physio to get straightened out and that's helped massively. Bench press today was up to 120kg which I was pleased with. I only did 3 reps but still pretty good.
With the added calories and bulking up comes a few changes to the routine. I've started doing dead lifts again for the first time in years. I started very light at 60kg for 4 sets of 12. I''m going to try to build this very slowly to get back to around 140kg which is what I used to do. I have to be very careful with dead lifts because of my height. Long legs and a long back are not ideal but as long as I'm careful and build slowly I'll be fine.
Might have a bit of a weigh in later to see if I'm getting back towards 16st. Think I should be pretty close.
Should be fun over the next few weeks seeing how this goes. One thing's for sure, the change has given me a much needed injection of enthusiasm in to my training. It had definitely gone stale before so it's good to be enjoying it again.
Bit of a side note: Only 10 days to go to win the prop with Cos. Must not fail now!!!

I don't know what's causing it but I'm very strong at the moment.
It could be any one or a combination of the following:
Creatine.
Glutamine.
Physio to fix dodgy joints.
Eating chicken salad sandwiches every day.
Placebo effect of any of the above.
No idea which it is but it's helped me shoulder press 35kg dumbells today which is very respectable. I've not done anywhere near that for years.
I have a feeling this bulking up thing could be tough. I just don't have the time that I used to to sort everything.
I might stick to just eating well with plentiful portions and adding a few protein shakes in for a bit of a boost.
Current weight is still around 15st 10lb. Long long way of my lean peak.
Back training tomorrow which means dead lifts. I'm going for a slight increase to 70kg. Just an extra 5kg on each side which will be barely noticeable. I know I could do more but I'm determined to increase this one very slowly.
If I'm feeling good on Monday I'm going to have a stab at the 50kg dumbells as well. The whole dumbell challenge thing fell by the wayside which was disappointing but it would still be nice to have a go just to see how they feel. All depends on if there's a decent spotter about and if I feel right at the time. Could be fun.

It could be:
...a cumulation of the hard-work you've put in up till now?

Matt
This diary has been one of my favourites of the year! Your prop, my prop, your encouragement as my deadline drew near!
Now for once, can you enter beast mode (or run like god mode,) either works and win this fkn thing!
There would be so much justice in a russell win, and if for no other reason than as a well done for your heroic gym efforts, but moreso because you are freerolling cos ;0)
