17th Feb 2015 22kg x 10, 26kg x 10, 30kg x 10, 30kg x 10

24th Feb 2015 28kg x 8, 32kg x 8, 36kg x 8, 40kg x 5

24th Mar 2015 28kg x 10, 28kg x 10, 28kg x 10, 28kg x 10

18th Aug 2015 26kg x 8, 32kg x 8, 36kg x 6, 22kg x 10

I'm finally back on the dumbbell challenge after being inspired by the new 'Blonde will make you strong!!' thread. It's always good to have some friendly competition to help keep you motivated so I'll be getting heavily involved over there. I'm still going to log everything on here though so that I can look back at it in the future.

I think that once the challenge is sorted it's going to be 3 or 4 reps max so I won't be worrying too much about how many reps I can manage.

My biggest concern is my weak back when I go for the initial lift and also when I put the weights down. I've been doing loads of core work recently and that seemed to really help because the 36kg dumbbells were no problem at all to pick up. I started to feel a little shoulder twinge but other than that everything was fine so hopefully I can keep this going.

Target date for 50kg is mid-November when I'm planning on going on holiday. After that who knows? The challenge we have looks like it's going to be maximum weight so maybe I can get 50+......

Could be a long road but it'll be fun trying that's for sure!!

5th Aug: Chest - 43", Waist - 35", Leg - 23.5", Bicep - 15.75"

12th Aug: Chest - 44.25", Waist - 35.25", Leg - 23.5", Bicep - 15.50"

19th Aug: Chest - 45", Waist 35", Leg - 23.5", Bicep - 16"

Mid November target....... Chest - 45", Waist - 34", Leg - 24.5", Bicep - 16.5"

More gains this week so really happy again. I started training legs today for the first time in a long while so hopefully that will catch up with everything else pretty soon.

The all important waist is staying at a steady 35". Could be tough dropping that at all whilst I'm taking in quite a lot of protein but if I can just keep it constant there's plenty I can do to trim down in the last 4 to 6 weeks.

I've not been going crazy at all in the gym so seeing these stats is really helpful with the motivation. It's very easy to get caught up trying to push out as much weight as possible because you don't think you're getting anywhere if you don't. Taking these measurements means that I know something's happening which in turn makes it much easier to remain patient knowing that the results are on their way.

17th Feb 2015 22kg x 10, 26kg x 10, 30kg x 10, 30kg x 10

24th Feb 2015 28kg x 8, 32kg x 8, 36kg x 8, 40kg x 5

24th Mar 2015 28kg x 10, 28kg x 10, 28kg x 10, 28kg x 10

18th Aug 2015 26kg x 8, 32kg x 8, 36kg x 6, 22kg x 10

25th Aug 2015 30kg x 4, 36kg x 4, 40kg x 4, 44kg x 3

Decent result today but I'm taking a completely different path to last time I did the 50kg challenge. Last time I set minimum reps of 10 before I'd step up a weight but this time I'm sticking to 3 or 4 and just blasting out whatever I feel I can do on the day.

Looks like a much quicker way to get there but time will tell.

Exercise of the week: (for last week)

The wide grip chin up. It may seem strange to post the same exercise twice but it really needs emphasising just how great chin ups are. No other reason for choosing it again of course......

Exercise of the week: (for this week)

The assisted wide grip chin up........

Slight variation on the chin up from the last two weeks. If you have a spotter then that little bit of help to squeeze out an extra full range of motion rep will really boost those lats.
