Well that's just wonderful, what a wonderful couple they are.

Such a great diary this, never fails to cheer me up, Alex is very much a glass half full lad.

A young man, living the dream, then finds his fairy Princess.

Lovely job, lovely.

From Page One of this Diary. Some things have changed since then.

So 3 and a half years ago I left school, and took a Gap year before University. It was during this year that I, firstly, discovered Poker and secondly, branched out of the bubble I had unconsciously been living in for my whole life. My very best friends at school rode horses, played croquet, studied Greek poetry, subscribed to the economist and sang Schubert songs together. I learnt that these were rather peculiar hobbies for 18 year olds. People drank alcohol to get drunk apparently. People had sex.

I had a cocky way of walking around apparently, I was arrogant, opinionated, even sexist and bigoted.

Alex

Are you still there on Saturday night.  There is some clear sky forecast and the auroro forecast is pretty strong.

Could be a good time to tag on to a tour out of rekjevik to see the Northern Lights?

http://www.northernlightsiceland.com/northern-lights-forecast/

There is no guarantee with these things as I found out last winter, but 4 on that Aurora scale is pretty good (we were plagued by 1s and 2s).

Northern Lights

We went on a tour which went couple hours out the city, with technology picking up where the best spots to see them were. It was pretty overcast so you need gaps in the clouds amongst a few other conditions to be just right to see them. You need a lot of luck.

After a couple of stop offs, standing in motorway lay-bys and abanoned car parks seeing nothing but black sky, we gave up and headed home.

Then on the way back, the bus stopped suddenly, and we were told to get out of the bus!

There was a magnificent arc of pale coloured light above us, stretching from one side of the sky to the other. We stared at it for a while, and it started getting stronger, and more active. It was swishing and swirling in the wind like a tornado. It was pretty magical. I almost preposed there and then. I had the ring in my pocket, waiting for the perfect moment.

Was hoping to see colours though! Greens, blues, yellows - like in the photos. Apparently the sophisticated cameras can pick up colours our eyes can't even see! My iPhone was the opposite. It couldn't even pick up anything! So no photos I'm afraid.

So whilst not being exactly what I hoped to see, it was still a pretty incredible sight.

Here's the best likeness to what we saw, though ours was more arc shape across the sky, and not quite as bright.

@Doobs, home saturday so will miss that unfortunately!
