Pretty sick night.

Really great 2/5 game with plenty of action. I sat with £1k and get involved in the first hand. I've iso'd a limper with and we've got 4ways to the flop. . Pretty happy. I cbet 40. Only the limper calls. on the turn he checks I bet 90 he craises to 250. Puke. I call though as he looks like a man with a bit of bluff in him. River pairs the 4 and he bets 350. I sigh call again and he proudly flips  . This is going to be a good game.

The other whale in the game gets stacked then reloads for 600. Before his chips arrive we're in a pot together. I've raised pre with , he and three others have called. Two Clubs he donks for 35, I raise to 100 he sighs and says "might be an early night for me".....I'm staring him down trying to work out whether it's hollywood or not. I believe him. He calls. Turn is the he snap moves in for 475. I don't really see how I can fold here. I call and try and hold vs his . Fail, river is the and I hand over the money. Pretty nasty beat. I'm level but moral is still high.

I'm in for 1300 as this point and am level, then get involved in a multiway pot with . The flop comes . Paul Grummit leads for 40 into 100ish. I call last to act with a gunshot and backdoor fd, and 1300 the other end if one of them comes in (I think...) Turn is a lovely he bets 40 again. I wasn't sure about my raise sizing here. Him betting 40 leads me to believe he's pretty weak. But since he's Paul Grumitt I thought he probs call anyway. I make it 155. He calls. River is a safe looking he checks. I bet 305 with about 800 behind. He shoves. Blurrrrrrrrgggghhhhhhh.

Just can't lay this hand down to Paul. He might value raises a set or two pair here, not to mention the chance he's full of shit. I call and he shows me 89. Had to step away from the table for a while after that. By quite some way the biggest pot I've ever lost. But that's all part of moving up stakes. Dealt with it pretty well and decided to return to the game with the 700 in my pocket and that'd be my last bullet. It was just too good a lineup to turn down and after my chill out session I wasn't feeling tilted at all.

Played pretty tight after that, went down to 500 and then ground it back, making some hands and some good calls. Flopped a set of eights in a 3bet pot vs my nemesis mr Grummit and won a decent pot, which could've been bigger had I raised the turn but the board was KQ8A and he'd 3bet from the blinds so was cautious. His river bet sizing gave away that he didn't have a bigger set so I comfortably value raised and got paid by AQ.

I finished the session up 60 and absolutely exhausted. The game broke and seats came open on 1/2 and I sat there and just couldn't deal with anymore poker. Im not used to the money and swings in that game and it really took it out of me. I got up and just chilled out with deadman till he went home.

The 2/5 runs pretty infrequently anyway, but I won't be playing too often. I'm just getting comfortable at 1/2 on my own I don't wanna go crazy and start losing 2/3/4k in a night.

Looking forward to a break, moving house on Monday, my brothers coming to visit and there's a sick night out planned. Then going on holiday a few days later for a week, can't wait.

Though I have to say, the buzz in those huge pots and the satisfaction I got just from getting even was amazing.

Predict an upswing to finish the night level. Most posts start with a loss but you normally claw it back champ.

iirc r.e Rob's HU challenges there is a strict ONE-ONLY rule which is why he can offer the 3:2

with the deviation and varience in HU poker the 3:2 actually makes nearly no difference to your EV in the game at all on a one off.

Rob is a smart guy, and knows this.

Can you elaborate on this Dave because I simply don't get it.  Surely your EV is what it is irrespective of the number of games.  Obviously the result in an individual game is going to be binary in so far as that you either win it or lose it but assuming Alex and Rob both have a 50% chance of winning the game then Alex has an EV of $1250 or £1250 doesn't he?  I have bet sports for my living for years and I can only run every event once but each bet still has an EV.

Edited because my maths was off.

cba to go into ridic maths, but i'll try find an article i read ages ago which basically said taking 8-1 on picking the right number of a dice throw is still a better bet for the layer than the backer (on one single throw ofc). its obv +EV getting 3:2 on a HU sng but the EV is pretty much irrelevant as it's one game because you're going to lose £500 quite often.

its obv good though, assuming you're ev0 you're £500 snap becomes worth £625, so rob is in essence paying you £125 to play him (long term), which is why he's not going to offer it more than once to the same person (which is why it becomes pretty much irrelevant)

It'll be a fun game, just run good imo Tongue

Similarly don't want to go back and forth on this but it would be pretty ridic maths that suggested that laying 8/1 on a number over one single throw was a better bet for the layer than the backer.  Obv the backer is less likely to win but as long as he doesn't bet outside of his bankroll then the advantage in that bet is always with the backer.  Irrespective of bankroll it can never be a good bet for the layer unless he received some metagame benefit.

An extremely rare occurence happened today. I achieved something productuve before 8pm. I packed up my entire house, all ready in neat piles to be packed into jamies mates van and moved 5minutes away to my new house. Mastered defrosted the fridge (though not without a quick phonecall to Mum Tongue), reading the meters AND cleaning the bathroom (urgh).

Walking to Dtd now feeling like I should make better use of my pre-dtd time from now on as its quite satisfying.

Hannahs also getting the train down from newcastle for our big night out tomorrow so I'm really excited about that.

About to put my 200th hour of the month in tonight, by far my best ever month volumewise as well as profitwise.
