This is gunna get ugly lol

@AlunB

So many points in there, but it was real easy to say that in 2006 because good players were just printing money and as nice as that would be its just not like that any more. Its all very well settling down and chilling out when you have that bankroll/nestegg but it is much much harder to get to that point now. What percentage of poker players that are making choices on how to approach midstakes cash games online/live have a house or £100k in the bank?

Yeah I don't particularly agree with that guy, I just thought it was interesting and a weird conicidence.

My point was more, you got into playing poker because you loved it. You can earn money doing other things too. If you CAN play poker and earn money and love life then do it, and worry not if you're earning only 50% of your potential EV.

If you're a plumber you could work every weekend and evening on increased rates and earn a shedload more cash, but there comes a point when life starts to suck too much to make it worth it.

You gotta give Pleno respect. He has a full time job working inthe poker industry comes home has his tea then plays poker till bed time. He then plays poker at the weekends at the most  profitable times. I for one would not want to do it for one week ever.

Lildave n Alex seem to have decent lifestyles and I often find myself being a bit jealous, but having said that I also get jealous watching porn.

Why u get jealous watching porn mate?  They got bigger c**k than u or they last longer?
I think both r the correct answer ,.,, lol

also people vastly over estimate their win rates on-line (everyone pulls 2bb/100 out of air like its a given) and the number of hands they will play (what online player really puts in 100k hands a month or even 50k? im sure many budget for it).

[/quote]

+1, not easy to win online let alone the amounts some grinders claim to make.

Its pretty hard to buy back your 20's and i'm sure on his death bed he wont be thinking if only i'd spent more Friday nights in in front of my computer.

Pleno, DMorgan, if it's that easy to earn £150/hour playing online then you guys must be on £200 - £250k a year. I just don't believe it, I'm sorry.

hm that comment doesn't come off too well imo. the main "argument" was that in almost any circumstance playing online > playing live. For you personally and for 95% of people in general too.

firstly.. £ is very different to $.

Secondly.. I recently posted 2 graphs where I made 30k+ in both, none of this is including rakeback which is obviously a big significant thing, I dont need/want to justify/quote how much I make (especially on your blog where I was simply just initially pointing out how soft games are on weekends) and I wouldn't want to pluck numbers out of thin air and say I don't think you would make it.

@Keith Alex goes on poker related trips to some of the nicest places in Europe and going away in Summer to Vegas, I don't think that he is going to look back and regret.

Oh and dont get me wrong I'm not even trying to preach that playing for hourly is the most important thing, remember I posted about playing less cash games and more tournaments. Whenever I play tournaments I know I'm going to be making less per hour.

I also dont play 32 hours a week.

This is a general point not aimed at anyone but if you go on Pokertableratings and look at the biggest winners for NLH over all stakes this year (this covers 888, party poker, ongame, merge, cake, ipoker) the 50th biggest winner has won just over $100k.  So over all these sites at all stakes theres only 50 usernames that are winning at a rate of $20k per month.

I know this doesnt include rakeback or pokerstars players but i think it goes to show out of the thousands of people who play on line there is actually very few that win at a big rate let alone a rate big enough to say its clearly more profitable to play online than in a fishy live game.

yeh but the argument is online vs live mate. if there was a site tracking live games I doubt there would be 50 players who have won 100k or more, especially if you miss out 30% of hands and take off expenses, dont add rakeback etc.

I'm not trying to say online is an absolute gold mine.
