I think it's definitely a mistake to look at winners of big live events and think "well he doesn't play online / work on his game / I don't rate him, if he can do it, why can't I?".
i am not saying that. I am results driven, which maybe wrong but I watched Gosney/Mallu getting the lot for years and now I see Wigglesworth, Rastafish yourself ( although you have migrated more to the dark side ) being so consistant

Do Rasta and Wigglesworth - as examples play cash as well?

I think the essence of Triggs point was two fold, firstly the point which has been debated about capability / improving game / staying upto date re playing on-line, but the second being purely about volume, variance, ROI, expenses etc.  There are probably plenty of examples of winning live players who combine tournements and cash - as I believe Alex did early in his career.  The combination of playing cash and tournes clearly supports sustaining an income in terms of win rate per hour, length of sessions and impoving post flop play - andplaying when you want.

Some of us either don't like cash, are useless (thats me), or prefer tournes - I am pretty sure Jason (I could be wrong) you are in that tourne camp.

Peronsally, I do not believe it is possible to earn a living playing live tournements, without internet unless at least two of the follwoing are in place:

1.  Appropriate starting bankroll / staking support and ability to sustain standard of living for a defined period of in excess of 12 months
2.  A sustainable schedule of tournments at £100-£1000 with minimal expenses to impact ROI e.g. VEGAS
3.  An early "bink" - which enables you to have more time and effectively delivers point 1.
4.  Combining tournes with being a winning live cash player
5.  You are ridiculously talented Smiley

I only came on to say "Well played Alex, clearly doing a lot of things very well and the moment and hope success continues!" - howeverstarted reading Jasons and Georges posts and do find it an interesting subject

Where is the post Shaun please.

Tbh I do prefer tournies but don't enjoy playing hold em cash. I have always prefered playing DC and would expect that had anyone seen me playing cash in the last 10 years 90% of the time it would have been DC

Jase, its not worth going there; as it turned into a keyboard warrior session on another thread based on private comments, taken out of context in a thread that is best lef alone -

The essence, which is the bit worthy of debate was exactly as George said, "you can't make a living playing live only in tournements, low volume (3-4 a month) without playing on line and not go bust - based around imroving honing game and volume etc"

I'll stop derailing Alex diary now - George started it lol

fml. There was been a keyboard war and I missed it Sad

I have to agree with George speaking from personal experience. When you spend £200 a week at Tesco on the big shop you need regular binkage just to stay afloat

Jason

I was speaking to 2 of the most prolific current online and live players at EPT Remo, we were debating what bankroll you need nowadays to play the "live world circuit" ie. EPT/WSOP/Aussie Millions etc events, I was talking about the romance of binking one of your first few attempts, but they both agreed that you should;

1. Never risk more than 1% of your bankroll on one buy-in
2. Never play an event if you are not better than 75% of the field*
3. If criteria 1 or 2 are not met - get backed or win a satelitte for a couple of euros

I guess the same criteria can be applied to UKIPT/DTD/GUKPT events, if you don't want risk going broke and poker is your living you should have £50K - £100 in the poker bankroll to play these £500-£1000 events, seems a bit boring but both these 2 guys started playing low stakes STT/MTT's online and are now playing €25K High Rollers and having a re-buy.

* not sure how you determine this

I think we all know in our heart of hearts that bankroll management and being good is the long terms winning poker strategy for the masses, there will always be players who go on an amazing run but often that's just talent plus a lot of luck.

Open invite to all recreational footballers, tonight notts powerleague, 730. They've got a new 7 aside pitch we're going to try out, just a social friendly kickabout. LMK if interested, we need a few more.

does this still apply? Are you looking to make it a regular thing? If so, well keen in future. Sadly, I can't do tonight, although I will be there from 8ish as I have a game at quarter past myself. Will have a look from the rail.

New pitch looks mint.

ps. PLO on wed?

I personally am off the belief that live poker tournaments are an unsustainable format of poker to make a living from. *FOR THE MOST PART*

The way you build a bankroll is lots of steady wins, not 1 huge bink.

another tldr post that i just deleted. cliffs:

I agree with most of the above post but

1. 100 buy in rule....... I am gonna try play the £500 deepstack in November but if I get £50k in the roll by then I may well be abroad with the family and wanted for armed robbery.

2. Only play if you are better than 75% of the field......Don't let the cat out of the bag about the 75% rule or you could have your biggest overlay yet Smiley
