He was marked up before the fight, but wouldn't think he'd be allowed to fight if he got starched?
Presumably Eddie would have been well out of pocket if he pulled AJ at the last minute?

I'm sure they have insurance, and not as out of pocket as he'd be if something like this turned out to be what actually transpired.
Bazza & McG are the boys who will know the coup. I just spray a bit of dough about trying to pay for my takeaways at the weekend

I'm still of the view AJ got comprehensively outboxed. PPV buys for the re-match will be through the roof. If AJ see's the final bell he'll take it on the cards and it's back to business as usual.

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes. Suppose even with no net loss on an event there'd be a huge blank where the AJ dollars should be.

Then get to tank up on
Fury
the draw
Would be a definite setback, but I'd imagine they're sharp enough not to go for a short sighted money grab with what was at stake.
One of life's great mysteries, as you say who knows what goes on. Rematch should be fun, regardles.

Just a theory based on nothing, but it could just be a good bit of damage limitation PR for Joshua. People get hit in sparring all the time and, as the better boxers experiment, they sometimes overcommit and walk onto one. When the other guy is a heavyweight, the chance of a KO is higher, no matter who you are.
If it got out that he'd taken a wallop, the internet would quickly turn that into a knockout and social media will do the legwork for Eddie.
There's no good outcome from your Adonis-like media machine getting knocked down four times against a fat outsider drafted in with 6 weeks' notice. So saying "he didn't open the jar; it had already been loosened" is helpful.
Ruiz isn't a complete mug. He boxed well, stuck to a very good plan and executed it fantastically, particularly given he had to do so after getting put on the canvas. It wasn't the AJ we've seen at his peak, but these people are human beings, not robots, and, as I say, heavyweights are dangerous.

I like this theory, and I particularly enjoyed the bolded bit.

I thought that they used head guards when sparing, and then when quite close to fight night didn’t spar at all?

Rematch clause has been triggered, so that will be end of the year, and Eddie says most likely UK.

A 20 second non skippable advert and not an ounce of emotion. Where's the fire and the comeback mentality going to come from?

I've never really see him get mad or emotional about anything, though.Other than a few times in the ring, obv.

If he was knocked out in sparring would it have a big effect on his performance on the night? How long do you need post KO to feel fresh? I didn't realise it is such a big thing. I thought you could shake it off in a week generally and be close to fully fit and be raring to go. There a protocol to follow? You need x amount of time post KO before fighting again?

I guess either he is a nicely rounded individual or he now has so much money and self belief in his own future, he doesn't give a shirt.
Also the return match is booked, he knows it's gonna happen, and it's six months away. How angry do you get how early? Start snarling at the camera from day one, you got to maintain a high level of intensity over a long time to keep the public involved. Slow and steady etc.
