i have had a shit few months financially..... although this should not really come into it!

my van failed its mot total of £700 to get it through....the van is v reg ldv convoy and i could not see the point in throwing good money after bad

so i scraped and i do mean scraped the money together and went to the auctions and picked up nice 2001 transit van.

now this is the thing was transferring all my kit over and a guy who lives up the road (border line alcoholic) comes up to me and this is the conversation

"nice new van"

"thanks mate"

"selling your old one ?"

"yes"

"how much"

"£600 mot and tax due at end of the month"

"give you £500"

"£550"

"£500 AND I GO AND GET THE CASH NOW"

"go get the cash dude"

now should i have told him about the £700 its going to cost to get mot or ..............

is it his own fault i mean he never even test drive it or asked any questions

How would you feel if the shoe was on the other foot etc?

I doubt you'd be sitting there thinking, "should have checked, guess that serves me right".

how would you feel if you took it for a test drive and it seemed fine then you found out that it had just failed an mot even though the guy selling it had told you that was due in a month? clearly trying to deceive and it sucks

Put it this way, you wouldn't have started a thread if you felt confident that what you had done wasn't in fact wrong.

I'm sure you're a nice person etc, but doing what you did is deceitful and dishonest imo.

(border line alcoholic)

These two things are you trying to make small justifications to yourself that your actions are ok.

This is a pretty scummy thing to do really.

Perfectly fine. The buyer knows a shitty old van isn't sailing thru a mot and so tellin him the mot is due is telling him to expect further costs. If he doesn't want to investigate the extent of those inevitable extra costs that's up to him. Don't know why you should force that info onto him when you're trying to sell your van. Why don't you sit him down and continue to convince him not to buy the van by harping on about the other bad points like the acceleration is crap and the seats smell? Lol. He prob has a mechanic mate who can do the mot for a fraction of the price the garage quoted or maybe he's not planning to mot it. I would tell friends or close neighbours I knew but not a random borderline alcoholic from down the road. Lol at borderline alcoholic. wtf?

justifying to myself about being skint....yes

border line alcoholic ......just an observation of anyone in the real world he almost certainly wont even bother getting an mot if he does it will be dodgy
