March 12th @ 11pm

We realised that we would be giving birth in the next 12 hours as Petra was having consistent contractions and had wanted to put the Tens machine on which send's pulses to release the endorphines as you are having the contractions and off we went to bed knowing that our baby would be born soon.

As with Maxwell we had always planned on having a home birth and at 2am on Weds 13th March Petra woke me to say her contractions were stronger and that we should go downstairs and call the midwife, so we set up in the lounge as we didnt want to wake Maxwell and if it was during the day had arrangements for a friend to take Max for the day.

3am and the first midwife Lisa turns up and checks Petra over and brings in the multitude of boxes that she could need containing equipment and also mediacal equipment if the birth turns difficult and with a home birth for anyone that does not know there is always an ambulance ready and waiting if there are any complications.  So every few minutes I am called into action to rub her back (something I learnt with the first birth that needs to be done on EVERY contraction) and generally make sure she has everything she needs and let Lisa sort out the rest and at that point we were 5cm dilated needing to get to 10cm for any of the youff who dont know these things yet.

445am and the 2nd midwife appears which is standard once you reach established labour and at this point the lounge resembles a battlefield with everything re-arranged and kit everywhere and Petra was now going through the "not feeling I can do it stage" so a bit of a motivational talk about how well she was doing and a few Jelly babies and off we wnt again.

At this point we knew we were close and as Maxwell wakes somewhere between 6-7am I called my Mum to see if she could come earlier than she noramlly does when having Max on a Weds and be with us for 7am and within a very short space of time we went from not being able to see the head or it being 50p's worth of view to within a few minutes the head being out and then 1 push later the baby being out and as we didnt know the sex of the baby (you dont get many big surprises in life boys!!) the 15-20 second wait whilst the quickly clean the baby and make sure she is ok and tell you the sex and our beautiful baby girl Ivy Jarka Blacklock was born weighing 7lb 6oz.

Here she is a few hours after the birth

and we didnt know how Max would take to her but explained a lot over the past weeks how Mummy was having a little baby and tried to keep him involved as much as possible and as he woke up we were actually giving birth so an hour or so later once the place had been tidied up and Petra was ready we introduced him to her and he calls her Bab although can now say her name and he is completely enamoured by her wanting to see her whenever he can and hold her as these show.

Finally one of me with Ivy from the past few days

both Petra and Ivy are doing really well and whilst babies normally lose a small amount of weight in their first few days especially the ones who are breatfeeding (in before Girgy) Ivy had gained weight after 5 days and is now getting into a good sleep pattern with Petra only being up twice a night for the past few nights. I go back to work properly next Weds after taking 2 weeks holiday to be off, I say take 2 weeks holiday but I negotiated at the start of the year for them to give me an extra 2 weeks this year as taking Paternity leave costs me money and they agreed which was nice of them so for the past 10days I have been in every other day and bought Max in for a few hours just catching up on stuff and helping out.

This was him in St.Kitts with Bandit's daughters but I will post up a youtube video of him later on from this morning.
<3 Maxwell

This past 10 days it has been just me and him all day from the moment he gets up till he goes to sleep with us making sure Petra is fed and watered and then doing fun stuff and it's been an amazeballs time but I guess it will be tough for Petra when I go back to work as he is getting demanding during the day however her Mum comes from Slovakia for 2 weeks on tuesday so she will get some more support before it's back to us again.

Sorry to say it but you need help or that cycle will continue a la Groundhog Day.  And despite your thinking to the contrary, you are in the category of mug punter.  If I had the resources, I would lay your bets till the cows came home.

No offence intended, just calling it as I see it in black and white.  I hope you get help before you ruin everything...
No offence taken and tbh I dont mind the flaming as anyone is free to post here and I have been honest with my diary since the start and see no reason not to be now and if I had control over every single penny I have in investments such as our properties then as I obviously have a degen gene in me then yes I would probably either be very rich or very poor however part of the safeguards in place are that I dont have access to that kind of money.

When you say "cycle continue or mug punter" then you would associate that as of someone who actually has a "Gambling problem" and that is not me as I have actually been there and been at Rock bottom before so know 100% where that is ( back in my mid 20's) and at that point in my life the only thing that mattered was the placing of the very next bet and winning or losing didnt actually matter to the detriment of everything, even if it meant missing payments on mortgages or debts to family members and that situation has never been repeated in the 7years that I have been with Petra and wont be again hence the safeguards.

It is a very different proposition to where I am at as I have a good job and for what I do as a completely unskilled person (main skills being an ability to get on with and talk to anyone) would suppose I earn a very good living which will always enable me to have a punt or a bet on the football and I dont ever envisage a time where not having the ability to have a bet will be in my life, that does not make a problem gambler. Many many people throughout their lives will have punts on football, horses whatever and if that's their leak then so be it as long as it does no harm to anyone then it should be fine my issue would be where having ironed out a serious amount of money what the next step would be if I had decided not to talk to Petra about it that may have been a different matter...

Really gutting to read this mate, and while I think 0800 is a little patronising this is per, haps because he thinks your just punting but I know thats not true. I hope it turns around, and make sure the swings aren't big enough to affect the most important things around you.

Rough reading mate, but at least it's only some dough you've knocked in and you've managed to work through it without any bigger problems arising!

You're gonna be too busy with Ivy to worry about BTTS coupons for a while anyway Wink

Nippers are quality, amazing how quick Max has grown up isn't it and I've only seen pics on here!

I notice the same with my niece because I only see her a few times a week, but it's ridic how they change in such a short space of time. Just set her up with her first PC because she wanted her own desk in the office and she's only 3... Thankfully she wanted it to watch Mickey Mouse Club on Youtube and hasn't asked for her own Betfair account just yet Grin

Best of luck in the comps mate and hopefully that 28 lumps will be back in place next month  thumbs up

Whilst 0800 may seem a little harsh with his 'mug punter' comment I can't help but think you still have a gambling problem Rich.

Just because it's not as bad as the 'rock bottom' problem you used to have doesn't mean you have it under control.

I would think most people on Blonde have a gambling problem to a certain degree. I know I have that's for sure. Fortunately for me I'm single with no dependents so if it goes tits up the only person who gets hurt is me.

You have a good job and a wonderful family. I don't understand risking it all for a chance of a few extra quid. You say that your bets were mostly flips. That suggests that the potential upside of this was a £28k profit. Would being £28k up have made as big a difference in a positive way as being £28k down has done in a negative way?

Dubai's spot on that life >>> money of course. This is so much easier to say when you have a few quid behind you. When it's all gone I'm pretty sure that despite being alive your whole situation changes dramatically.

Good luck sorting all this out mate. Sounds like you have a very understanding wife but I'm sure there's limits to that understanding.

Cheers

Matt
