Poor effort at the Super 50 this week. The standard of play was really bad, even by the usual standards.
I’ll give a rundown of the players to give an example.
Seat 1 was the only decent player at the table. I’ve seen his face around, though not recently.
Seat 2 small bet KK all the way and paid off a bare Ace that made a wheel on the river. Was gone by level 3.
Seat 3 checked the river on a board of 8,2,2,2,Q with KQ. Not a trap check, he was last to speak.
Seat 4 at 50/100 made it 275. I three bet in position to 650 with AK, he calls. Leads 5000 into 1450 on a 4,4,4 flop. I’m, all in for 7000. He says he meant to be 500 and almost folds A10. Turn and river is 5,5 for a split. FML
Seat 5, yours truly. Seat 1 is the only one capable of passing a hand, so all my moves are failing and I’m not getting much in the way of ammunition.
Seat 6 playing too many hands but pulling lots of confused faces. Not showing many hands but feels pretty weak.
Seat 7 well known lady cash game player with an “unconventional” style.
Seat 8 was the one who got paid off check calling with a bare ace to hit the wheel against seat 2’s Kings. Sums up his general style
Seat 9 has been watching too much super deep stack poker on TV. At 25/50 he opened to 125. Seat 1 3-bets, seat 9 4-bets, seat 1 5-bets. Seat 9 6-bet shoves. Seat 1 snaps him off with AA. Seat 9 shows
. Aces hold and the only decent player at the table gets chips and goes to work. Hits a few cards too, which helps.
Seat 2 became empty and Lucy Rokach moves in. I assume she had an early exit from the £150, because I can’t believe a player of her calibre is travelling for a Super 50.
Seat 1 finally saw me off when he raised from mid-position with AJ. I pushed from the button with KK. He apologised in advance for binking the Ace on the river.
A bit annoyed with myself. Because the quality of the opposition was so poor, I felt I had to get creative and mis-fired all over the place. If I’d gone into grind mode, I’d have only played two hands, both against seat 1. A missed AJ v AK which he picked up fairly cheaply and the AJ v KK, which if I’d had more chips I’d likely have won on the flop or turn. I’d likely have got to the break still around the 10k mark, rather than being out by the first break.
Ah well. A week of €10 Deepstacks on DTD then off to Luton Saturday and Sunday for the APAT Team Championships. Not something I’d normally be interested in, but my kids football coach runs “I Love Playing Poker” and is covering all the buy ins. Doing it as much as a favour to him as anything. I’ve talked SaraM into being on the team as well, so it’ll be nice to have a weekend away together, even if that is in a Premier Inn on the M1. What an old romantic.
