tied voting! so given that we live in a democratic society does that make 41 equally as correct as 1? is it the case that he minority that said 81 or 0 should have an equal say? if more people vote for 1 does that prove Kinboshi is wrong? |

I did a PGCE and a large part of the theory for teaching maths is identifying and correcting misconceptions.
What's weird is that this isn't really one of them, almost all pupils learn BODMAS and then have no problem with it.
stroppy teenagers are perfectly happy to accept it but seems like some people have a problem doing so as they get older

I was a thoroughbred mathlete in primary school , we played a game involving the multiplication table up as far as 12x12, you would stand back to back with your opponent and mimmick that its a wild west shootout, the teacher would shout 7x9 or something the quickest person to draw their gun and turn and shout out the answer was the winner, I was unbeaten and unbeatable! Good days!

Not as irritating as them teaching them crap like the seven day creation myth and Noahs Arc years before ever mentioning the big bang and evolution, but that's another discussion. I guess the idea is to lay basic foundations and not worry too much about the detail. I remember my A level physics teacher telling me that a lot of the Newtonian physics I'd been taught at GCSE was wrong, and that a lot of the Einsienian physics he was going to be teaching was closet, but still wrong, and that if anyone went on to degree level, they'd be correncting us again. |
