When I was going through the Wolverhampton card last night the 4:50 was a race I never felt too confident about and chewed over a few, I am surprised by the money that's come for Frederickthegreat, I think that's a horse that will prosper over further.  The one I was interested in was Maybeagrey and have now had a bet on this 1pt win @ 11 and 4 pts place @ 3.0

Hi Raman
Will you be updating the balance like Redarmi used to at the end of each day/week/month?
So we can see the long term picture as I love seeing overall the margins.

Yes mate, I will do that each day.  I have set up an excel document for this as well showing the selections/prices/stake and returns to make the admin site of things easy.

Pretty meh day, could have been worse had it not been for a top up and an additional bet in the afternoon.

Balance is 494.75 points so a loss of 5.25
points on the day.  Going into the last 2 races I was still confident we could turn a profit especially when the money came flooding in for Boa in the 5:20, I was really expecting a big run but it just petered out.

Here is hoping to a better day tomorrow.

Good luck with this, Raman.

In 40 years of punting, I never once backed someone's else's tips, it makes no sense to me, but I really hope you keep the thread discipline up, win or lose, & hope it goes well for you.

What doesn't make sense about it ? If your pretty terrible at betting on the geegee's but like a little flutter it makes more sense to follow someone's tips that has a clue then go with your own.

Sorry, Ray, but I have always struggled to find a single reason, or a shred of logic, to backing other folks "tips", I can lose my own money without help from "experts"......!

I don't back the horses any more, but I used to, big time, & for a very long time, both in LBO's & @ the tracks.

I remember one Derby day, a geezer bending my ear about his fancy in The Derby, @ Epsom. "It's definitely trying today" he said.

Who'd have thought?

So would you disagree with my reason, it's pretty viable and something I would do myself. It seems a good idea to me to go with a tip from someone who knows someone involved with the horse for instance etc etc then me just pretend I have a clue what I'm doing and then go with the 3rd favourite for valuooooo or the one that has a jockey on I know.

Yes, I would disagree with that, Ray - strongly!

Surely it's common knowledge that jockeys, trainers, stable boys, "conections" generally, are the world's worst "tipsters"?

Invert the problem Ray. In a typical 8 runner race, the connections of 6 of the horses fancy their chances. They can't all win! The other 2 are "not off", but can hardly fess that up, so just say "we fancy ours today".

Next time someone gives you a tip, use a pin instead. Your results will be no worse.

Other than Cheltenham I very rarely bet on horses, too hard to win imo but I don't mind knocking it in one week of the year as Cheltenham is fun times, I have to go one year. I only really have an interest in betting on football, and even that's pretty rare, mostly just when I can't resist the value of getting double odds, max bet plzzzzzzzzz, and I run pretty good with that.

12:10  Lingfield – Dazzling Begum – speculative punt based on its running for the first mile in a race at southwell over 12 furlongs, seemed to be cruising along well but jockey was never happy and after the first mile he was scrubbed along a little before being dropped out last.  It won’t take a lot to win this race and the selection is a few lbs lighter than last winning mark.  1.25 pt e/w @16/1

12:40 Lingfield – I am having a small win bet on Galiotto 2.25 points @ 100/30 as I think it’s the best horse in the race based on previous form and  is certainly the most consistent in the field.  I have also had word that the Jim Boyle trained Sioux City Sue could be one to have on side.  A combination of step up in trip, application of cheek pieces and switch to handicaps might just bring out enough improvement to see this one take some steps forward 1pt e/w @16/1.

1:10 Lingfield – Drawnfromthepast
- I had this one in the book from a good while back and backed it last time when it was under par when finishing 4/9 at Wolves in a 5f sprint, however I think the switch in stable will bring about the improvement.  Everything else ticks the box for me in terms of jockey, previous form, and ideal draw.  Its my nap for the day and will be having 3 points win @ 4.9 and 7 points place @ 1.74

2:15 Lingfield – Dazzling Valentine – Is well in at the weights I feel and one that impressed me when winning earlier in the year, it never got home over 14 furlongs the last time and although 12 furlongs will be testing for her I am hopeful of a big run 1pt e/w @ 16/1

2:50 Lingfield – Norville – Is a tough and genuine type and always seems to try his hardest, I have won a few quid on this horse over the last year and I think back in handicaps it has the opportunity to go well at a fairly big price.  Decent young claimer onboard taking a valuable 5lbs off as well 1pt e/w @22/1

3:20 – Lingfield – Eager to Bow – I think I posted this one on here when it ran last?  It finished 4th that day after getting going late, it was bustled a long early which I don’t think suited and never really managed to get a position until late in the race and he came with a thundering run.  This stable has traditionally done well with these types of horses and contrary to popular opinion I don’t think been drawn on the wide outside is a hinderance to this horse.   3pts e/w @ 12/1

1:55 – Southwell – Sirgarfields Sober
– Was a useful performer on the flat upto 12 furlongs but seemed to have been out of sorts on last few runs, hopefully he is reinvigorated for the switch to hurdles and if he is could go well at a biggish price 0.5pt e/w @ 50/1.  Also in this race I am giving a chance to Hits Only Jude – another horse I have done well with on the flat and in truth he owes me nothing but he is related to a fairly useful hurdler and if he takes to obstacles he could also represent some value 0.5pt e/w @ 40/1

3:00 – Southwell – Ruby Valentine
– Well weighted on best of form, an inadequate trip last time out never really helped and I am pretty sure that the extra 3 furlong will see her back in the frame and could go very close to winning  2.5 pts e/w@ 15/2.

I also have 3 doubles on today Drawnfromthpast (4/1) & Ruby Valentine (15/2) 1pt e/w, Drawnfromthepast (4/1) & Eager to Bow (12/1) 1.5pts e/w, Eager To Bow(12/1) and Norville (22/1) 1pt e/w.

Id generally agree with tikays post about heeding others advice and particularly stable advice but there have been times when Ive spotted a 'tell' and profited from stable connections.

Once was at Carlisle races when Mary Reveley had two runners in the same race. Me and a mate were watching the horses in the pre parade ring when we saw the stable girls shove some cash together and one of them made her way to the on course bookies. It looked like they were making an investment on the race and felt worthwhile to check out their thoughts. We followed the young lady and after a while waiting for the best price she lumped it on the 'second string' which was hovering around the 12/1 price.

Stable staff are not the best paid and it was a was a tidy sum for them so we felt why not and followed suit. The nag duly delivered and we made a very nice profit.

Alas the reverse has also been the case and stable information been very expensive to follow.

Nope - just a jokey comment on his results so far.

Scottish Dave would never back anything bigger than 2/1.
