Pound worth only $1.25

Complete nutter in the White House.

Extorionate "resort fee" charged at virtually every hotel.

6 or 7 wizards at every table.

And now this.. http://calvinayre.com/2017/02/15/poker/international-wsop-players-may-tax-issues-itin-rule-changes/

I see absolutely no reason to go to the WSOP this year.

Agreed.  For the average guy in the uk who thinks he is 'lolgood' at poker he will do his bollocks in ex's this year going to vegas.  I really want to go this year having not been since 2012 but the ex rate is just brutal.

As for Marky you can do all of his pictures cheaper in Malta and everyone of the pictures will probably be higher class pound for pound!

I'll probably go next year, because I've promised myself a shot at the seniors as soon as I'm qualified.

After that, unless things change dramatically, I can't see myself going until I take Jake as his 21st birthday present.

The WSOP said that they will still issue ITINs when being paid and I assume the other big series will be the same.

Downtown casinos will likely still look at you as if you are from Mars, but if you have cashed for over 5k before you can go to the Rio and they will issue you with a copy.

According to the tax expert in the article, they are only saying that because they are unaware of the new legislation.

Knowing the incompetence of the WSOP staff in the past, I find this argument pretty plausible.

I cashed for 5k in 2010 downtown and they actively didn't want me to find a IN number as they could chop the 30% themselves and tell the US revenue i was english and i had an IN number.  That was the impression i got before i weighed the fat ***** in with $200 in a back hander to avoid having to get an IN number that he wouldn't provide.  Pretty sure nothing will have changed.  It will only have got worse.

I made the same promise with the Seniors, but they keep putting it on EDC weekend and I don't fancy paying double for a hotel.

I think right now, I need to start just winning again as a minimum.

This will prob be the last time I go for a few years, as it is going to be expensive.

Managed to get a decent deal on my room for the first couple weeks, and have spanked off all the myVegas points I've built up on a week at Vdara when the UFC will be on.

Super Seniors, surely Keith?

You are qualified for the Seniors already.

The exchange rate makes accom a bit more expensive yes, but you can stay pretty cheap in houses 10-15 minutes from the RIO. I will be making myself breakfast every day and taking a packed lunch to the RIO. I will eat out occasionally but I think if you want to treat this trip professionally you are going to have to do things good and proper with home cooking. American supermarkets are absurdly cheap so the exchange rate shouldn't be too much of an hindrance.

Slightly worse exchange rates overall are much much better for professional poker players overall. I go to Vegas taking 100% of every tournament I play with correct bankroll management, so if you're adequately rolled then you're going to make more money from the poker which offsets expenses.

The bad exchange rate hurts the recs who don't make money from poker as well as people who are borderline rolled enough to be going in the first case. If it were my choice, I would like the dollar to pound to be 1.0. The only recs that will be put off will be ones that coming from Europe and Canada and to be honest, a large % of the rec distribution are yanks anyway.

I feel the need to right a wrong. I am on the verge of my 8th trip to Vegas and have never asked for a room upgrade.

I have wanted to every time but I am completely devoid of the required brass neck.

Can someone explain to me, what I say, and at what point in the check in process and when and how much to tip for it to work. I cannot go another time without trying!

It's a bit different for us, as we're normally there for extended stays, unlike the american visitors.

They flick a score at the clerk, for a night or two, and they'll normally go to work. Not generally going to get much love when you're there for >7 days.

I've not done it for a while, but the last time I did in '09, I bunged the girl @ Caesars $100. That got me upgraded from the base room to one on top floor in the brand new Augustus Tower.

It's also going to be dependent on where you're staying, as some properties generally won't even entertain it. Wynn & Golden Nugget being two that I've never had any luck at.

Just ask if there are any comp upgrades available for your stay, and indicate which room you're looking for. Say that you'd rather throw them some cash, than pay a p/night fee.

$20 in the passport and a discreet enquiry about upgrades? Obv that would just be a one level upgrade, guessing you'd need to throw a lot more $$$ at them if you're looking/hoping for a significant room jump.

It's a very un-British thing to do Smiley I was a bit hesitant first time but I guess working on a reception in a Vegas hotel, they've seen and heard it all before. I've had one success and one failure since my first attempt (though the fail was a Friday night check in at Monte Carlo on the weekend of the first Colossus so I'm not surprised there was no availability haha)

I gamble like a maniac as soon as I've had a few white cosmopolitans and the Wynn take shedloads off my bill Smiley
