If you have a select room the Hotel is farrr better than similar mid strip hotels and much cheaper. The problem is it is at the end of the strip, wrong end.

I wouldn't quite say it's far better than any of the mid strip hotels, but it's a step up from Quad (IP) and it is cheap. I did like the budget version of Shoppes at Palazzo, and the hairdressers is a reasonable price!

Also, the fact it's like walking straight into a scene from the Wire when you step outside goes against it. I had my eyes peeled for Bodie and his chessboard on the way back to civilisation, and I swear I saw bubbles a couple times on the way too Grin

Tbf, the Select Rooms ARE really nice.  As a room, better than Flamingo/Ballys/Harrahs/Monte Carlo, it really is quite decent.

But the location is crap, the food is crap.  Rooftop pool had a good game of water volleyball tho, if that counts!  Fat chance of MGM letting you ping a football around in the pool.

If anyone was just grinding a ton and hiring a car, I wouldn't put anyone off.  And it goes without saying that it beats 7 colours out of the Crocus and Riviera for those that end up there "coz its cheap" ~ I can't think of a single attribute that a Strat Select Room wouldn't win on.

I hired a suite there a few years ago, they wanted $70/night at a time when poker rates hadn't come down as much as they should have and were still ~ $169ish.  Ultimately I didn't stay there for the duration, I checked out early and switched to Venetian for remainder ~ at the end of the day it was a massive suite at a crazy price..... but still in a shit hotel.

couple of photos... suite was called a Luxury Grand Suite.  (If you excuse the sandpaper towels and prison-issue soap etc...)

That's the key isn't it, but I'll never be driving in Vegas and the guys I know who do are there for months.

Give me a a half decent room in a better hotel, and not going through the projects if I'm walking anywhere is a bonus too Smiley

Has there been a rule change this year - I noticed there are a lot less sats on sites this year even pokerstars won't buy you in they just award the package and give you the money

Is it a legal thing or is there a drop in interest?

I don't want to go into too much detail right now, but I can tell you that this year, for an Online Site to buy players in to the WSOP, it has been near impossible to do it in a fully street-legal manner which does not impair Compliance. For those sites with particular types of licence, especially the UK facing ones, it has been an absolute nightmare to try & sort.

Drop in interest? I think that, too, I fear numbers may be down a tad this year, though I hope I'm wrong.

The Main Event only has 3 Opening Days this year, incidentally.

I may be able to furnish further information later today, as the WSOP Media Preview Telecom is today, @ 1pm EST, whatever time that is in the UK. There is plenty to like about my job, but partaking in that Annual WSOP Media Preview is one of the less pleasing duties......Fortunately, it rarely lasts for more than 27 hours while the spotty newbie at the front asks daft questions by the score.

Over or under in daftness?

"Which form of poker will it be this year"

"Has Phil Ivey been on Facebook?"

"May I have a free ticket, please?"

Stayed in Harrahs last year.  Very central location. Rooms were fine, but dining options were limited, not too much of a problem given the options in the surrounding casinos.  Poker room was OK for $1/$2, but the Venetian is just down the road.

Stayed in The Quad/IP at Xmas and played a fair bit in Harrahs next door.  As Gazza says, a fantastic location - if not the best IMO.  I've decided next time I go I'll probs stay Harrahs as it share location with Quad, but is nicer but still fairly cheap.

Dining within Harrahs I can recommend the cafe for 'Steak and Eggs special', think its served between midnight and 6am. Great value for cash grinders, tastes great and filthy cheap.  I had a set 3 course meal (Sunday roast type thing) at 'Toby Keiths I love This Bar and Grill' which was very good value.  But otherwise, loads of places on the strip.

Deepstack tourneys?

Probably been posted up before but:

http://www.allvegaspoker.com/tournaments.php

It's probably different during WSOP, but most tournaments were not worth bothering with...super fast structure and excessive juice.  However I found the following deepstacks to be good (in order):

1. The Wynn Sunday Special (really well run card room, ipod/phone chargers at table, lots of action, stunning valets ). O and the best structure. At first glance it looks < The Venetian, as you get 10 k instead of 12k chips (I think).  BUT the clock is 10 mins longer and there are 2 or 3 crucial levels left in that give much more play.

2. Venetian Deepstack  Daily, staple diet.

3. The Aria  Nice surroundings, evening deepstack.

thks lee,
i gotta note this stuff down Smiley
i'll save that link too, yeah it might be different as you say with wsop being on but still would fancy similar stuff going on. chargers at table yes!! Smiley stunning valets Wink

yeah the better the clock the more suited for me i think, heavy turbos not my cup of tea. 'tony keiths bar and grill' lol i'll write that down too. eating out might be a good option, i wana play poker alot but im not a fan of eating whilst playing.

is there any big rules that dont apply to poker here in england?

thks for advice lee, enjoyed reading it Smiley
