Elements can be broken down into metals and non-metals. Vegas shows can be broken down into CDS and non-CDS shows.
The good thing about CDS shows:
They are usually hosted in purpose-built theatres which allows them to take things up a few notches from any travelling CDS show you may have seen, say at the Royal Albert Hall, where they have to turn up with their gear and work out what they can do without taking the roof off or dropping a swimming pool in.
The bad thing about CDS shows:
They are all a bit same-y and are also top $ with rarely any discounted tickets available for half decent seats. I personally like the shows a lot, but it's definitely marmite to a lot of people on here.
The good thing about non-CDS shows:
You can usually get tickets same-day, often half price. Probably put the start time back half an hour for you if you ask nicely too. More variety to choose from.
The bad thing about non-CDS shows:
Watching someone impersonate some TV anchor that you've never heard of isn't my idea of a great evening. Nor watching some comic rip into some unknown z-listers.
Of the CDS shows
, i think Love (Mirage) O (Bellagio) are superb. I have a soft spot for Mystere (TI) and you could probably get BOGOF on tix there as it has been running for so long, but I understand for others, it might seem dated. MJ-one (Mandalay) Ka (MGM) Zarkana (Aria) are all solid shows, you won't be asking for a refund, but you probably won't want to go again for the $$. Zumanity and Criss Angel are probably best swerved.
Of the non-CDS shows,
Absinthe is well reviewed, but parts of it are painful, not one to take Granny to. Le Reve is non-CDS, but is so same-y it defeats the point. Thereafter, Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages for music, I don't know of a good Vegas burlesque show, Copperfield for magic (if he is on) [Penn and Teller was meh imo] and a handful of tribute shows. A selection of hypnotists, comics and improv shows, then ofc you have the random touring concerts which by definition, change each month. Could be a chance to join up with Chompy and get the Celine Dion+Garth Brooks+Donny&Marie treble in. I think Meatloaf is playing early Nov and Rod Stewart is playing late Nov, for example.

For any Prince fans, one of the shows I would recommend is Purple Reign.
The residency moves around from time to time - I saw them at the D (Downtown) last year, but it looks like they're at Planet Hollywood nowadays. Well worth face value, IMO, and I suspect it wouldn't be difficult to get discounted tickets.

Not just me then. Good to see.
If you get chance, go see the show. I can't imagine anyone more difficult to impersonate, but this guy is fantastic.

I think when I saw them, they were in Monte Carlo ~ that was a few years ago! (The real) Prince then did a small limited ticket lounge-style show at Rio a few years ago, which was unbelievably good.
There's definitely better things to do in LV than play poker.

The 3121 club. That was spectacularly awesome, but very expensive. Worth it to be standing 6 feet away from him performing though.

I am in Vegas during the last week in November and want to see some good quality shows this time. Are the shows for that week listed anywhere now?
Back from Vegas yesterday. Went to see "Human Nature" Motown show at Venetian, loved it. Seen Penn and Teller and Blue Man Group on previous visits, both very good.

Some random Vegas questions for you veterans out there (1 word answers are fine if you wish and others may find the answers useful !)
Is it worth joining one of those Loyalty things like Total Rewards?
Can you use other hotels' pools if yours is closed in Feb for example?
Is it so important to stay on the strip for a first-timer?
Best way to hoover up freebies without feeling like a peasant?
Is it hassle to take an internal flight in America to say San Francisco for 2 days (would like to watch an NFL game)
Is it true/acceptable to walk around with a can of beer in your hand from casino to casino?
Is it a bad idea to go alone for a first timer? (My mates don't like NFL or are allowed a weeks holiday to vegas !)
I have checked prices from Expedia/Ebookers/LowCostUSA etc as well Smarter Vegas/CheapoVegas and doing it separate. Am I missing a decent place to get a good price?
Seriously, I must have spent over 100hrs finding out stuff but the best info will come from people on here who have been a time or 2 I guess. This thread has been great too.
Anything new you can tell me?

It's a crime not to join them. You need these to earn comps of any kind, and most have some sort of offer for new signups (probably to win a mug, or a t-shirt, but sometimes free play)
Can you use other hotels' pools if yours is closed in Feb for example?
Pass
Is it so important to stay on the strip for a first-timer?
I'd say no, others will disagree. I love downtown Vegas. Cheaper gambling, everything within easy walking distance, etc. My wife refuses to stay there and wants to be near the shopping malls, etc while I'm playing poker. It very much depends on what your plans are, who's with you, etc but the Deuce Trolley makes the strip easy enough to get to cheaply from downtown.

Rewards card sign up and making sure you get your play rated everytime
Is it hassle to take an internal flight in America to say San Francisco for 2 days (would like to watch an NFL game)
No, it's easy enough. Another option is to drive. San Fran and Oakland are a bit far away for this but San Diego is c4 hours away by car
Is it true/acceptable to walk around with a can of beer in your hand from casino to casino?
Sometimes when you walk down the strip, it feels like you're breaking the law by not carrying a beer or an oversized Margherita/Pina Colada
.
Is it a bad idea to go alone for a first timer? (My mates don't like NFL or are allowed a weeks holiday to vegas !)
Solo trips are fine. Again it depends on plans. If you're planning a week-long grind then you're hardly going to be much company anyway. If you post on here at the time you'll probably find that someone else is out there anyway who might meet up.
I have checked prices from Expedia/Ebookers/LowCostUSA etc as well Smarter Vegas/CheapoVegas and doing it separate. Am I missing a decent place to get a good price?
If there is, I'm pretty sure you'll find something on here from Simon Galloway about it

^^ Just what I'm after, thanks.
One thing about that Total Rewards thing for example, your points expire after 6 months apparently, so other than the sign up, is it really worth it, I mean, really?
Keep 'em coming!
