Had a few ups n downs today...

firstly we were going home, then not (sit by pool time), then home again, now not and we're doing some extra little jobs to 'help out'.

Sounds ok, not really fussed either way.

Went for a swim today, motivated by my mum who has lost 7 stone this year (sick win) and is not only feeling good, but looking good and has literally lost 15 years off herself this time last year.  So proud I can't describe it.  She seems really happy....

Little weirded when she tells me that her and my step-dad have 'rekindled' their relationship this year, mainly since my Uncle died a few months ago - its reminded them that life isn't forever.  Nice story, I'm glad something positive has come out of it - just a shame I get some rather 'unwanted' images as a result.

Anyways, went for a swim and knocked in 10 lengths of front crawl, 10 min rest and 10 more lengths.  Felt good after but its tougher than I remember.  I find that after a few lengths I get a little messy with my breathing, then panic, then breathe worse, then panic more.  Then I have to do the crawl with my head out of the water like some kind of drowning frog and get to the end, to get a breath and regain control.  Not sure what's taken hold of me, but I only had 1 beer tonight and stopped myself half way through the second plate of food @ the thai restaurant.  Couple this with my alarm being set for 0655 tomorrow so I can get up and have a morning swim....

WTF am i doing?

Hopefully I can jumpstart myself taking care of myself again.

I'm somehow at 100Kg, which just isn't right for someone at 5ft 11! (and 3/4 Tongue)

Target weight is going to be 85kg, which is a long long long way away... but if I can get a trend going then I hope I'll be able to keep it going.  I've only lost weight properly once before and that was after my previous (first) big relationship ended and I had to get 'back in the game' so its tough getting motivated when I have an amazing, beautiful and sexy girlfriend in C.  But hopefully it will be enjoyable for her too....

Bit random, but this is what's in my head.

Anyways, feeling a little tired... So going to send C an email and get off to sleep..... We will see whether or not I listen to my alarms and get up for a swim or not tomorrow.

I wouldn't bet on myself either way tbh.  That is one thing I've thought of though, I'm a proper stubborn **** when I want to be, maybe I ought to make a bet with someone.... to do with getting to a certain weight in x time.

hmmmm...

wtf.

did 30 lengths in 10 chunks... went well... first half I was breathing properly and swimming with decent form (i think) but struggled on the second half.  Made it easier to breathe when I slowed down and didn't rush so much.

will be trying to get some time later...

possibly do same tomorrow morning.

Huh?

Unsure, but its got to be around 12-15m ish..

Takes me about 9/10 strokes or so to get to the other end.  I often do a full length underwater for the 'first one'.

Its quite stressful being underwater for a 'long' time sometimes.

I love being underwater - in my youth I could do almost two lengths of the pool at Northampton which was around 60m total.

Do you get a push off at the beginning of every length? Try doing it without touching the ends, it strips out the 'rest'. I find the biggest downside to swimming as exercise is boredom, so do medley swims. One freestyle, one backstroke, one breaststroke (or what passes for it in my case) and an occasional burst of 'fly'. A good test of fitness that one!

Got up and smashed the swimming this morning... but definitely still not crushing the breathing yet.  I managed to mess up the first set, sort out the second set and work through the final one.  Pretty sure I use up/ fill up my lungs with air before I start and then they're not used to the excercise so im trying to use them quicker than they want.

Obviously the more I do it, the better, stronger and quicker and more efficiently they will work and it should get easier.  Enjoying it so far and its such an overall 'healthy' way to excercise without stressing any joints too much.

Obv requires a pool which isn't always available but I might add it to my repertoire from now on.

Other than that, chilling @ hotel since we worked late yesterday even though we've technically finished our 'project'.  Turns out the flights home are booked up and we can't leave early so we've been helping the staff with some technical 'freebies'.

Can't wait to get back and smash a few hands next week before I go away.

Are you allowed to do that? That's making a big assumption that you work out of Hanslope or similar.

He is a guest in the hotel, we met by the pool. Nice guy, he's here with his new company to try and negotiate land deals for agricultural development.  Its nothing more than a couple of guys having drinks in the hotel bar nattering about why they are in country. No problem with that.
Yes I work out of Hanslope.

Ok.
I worked there for a year in 2007 and was a lot stricter on what we could or couldn't do or say when abroad. Saying that, i never actually got to go away as I got unceremoniously marched off site for calling the Program director a c**t. Not the best thing to do to keep your job.

Depends on the program you're on... I'm working on an unclassified system that is in the Embassy public areas, so nothing big.

That'll certainly do it though..  Many deserve it, I've worked here since 2002, maybe we crossed paths a while back.

Turns out we have very very little left to do, so today and tomorrow will be chilling, waiting for the stuff to hopefully arrive.  When it doesn't we'll frig it up anyways... and we can't leave early because the flights are booked up....

therefore....

I worked for HP on the doomed firecrest project as one of the core windows architects.
I loved the job but the HP management at the time were clueless.

Can't remember too many people from there. Will find you at DTD next time your there for chat.
