I have just run some numbers and a quarter first 5 is better than a fifth first 6 and a sixth first 7.

That is true whatever the price, but it gets a lot closer on a bigger price.  At 14/1 the difference is 3.3% between quarter first 5 and fifth first 6; and 1.9% between fifth first 6 and sixth first 7.  At 40/1 the differences are 1.8% and 0.6% respectively.

But the difference between 16/1 and 14/1 is 13%, so getting a bigger price is much more important than choosing between the three different each way terms.  Obviously avoid taking quarter first 4 or fifth first 5 when there are better terms available.

Anyone got any National tips?

General Principle at 50/1 looks good to me.   He was pulled up at Cheltenham last time, but he got baulked a couple of times and should stay.

I also liked Anibale Fly (really solid, though probably not value) and Ramses De Teilee;  Vieux Lion Rouge is a bit punty for old times sake (maybe get the 7 places!)

I picked out Rathvinden before, but it has gone a bit short.

If I was putting up just one for TfT it would probably be General Principle.

I think we’ve see a Geraghty related drift on Anibale Fly, with Walsh a more than capable stand in, he’s a very backable price now imo.

I have backed him already, but there has been a big move on betfair in the last hour.   It looks like you should take the 16/1 if you csn still get it.

Sky are a bit odd today. They are only a fifth first 5 in the National, but 6 places in the first and a very generous fifth first 4 in the 3.40 hurdle which has a short priced favourite in Apples Jade.

Obviously both good races for each way punters.   I am heavily restricted, but they let me have a surprising 25 each way in the Apple's Jade race.

Frank Hickey got me, and I've whacked into Vintage Clouds e/w

Had a tenner freebet on Minella at a boosted 60s ages ago, and got all the value with a tenner on the Don @ 60s, too.

Both those on the nose, obv.
