It is all on Serena's racket today. We have to hope her radar is still a bit rusty and Riske can capitalise.

Amazing shout this Berg.   Serena looks in gambling mode and out on her feet fitness wise.

Riske v Serena Williams is currently live on BBC2.

No further comment from me.

That was enough ;0)

Great run from that girl. Definitely has a win in her very soon, & thanks bergeroo for the sweaty tip

Damn those double faults on big points from Riske were the killer. I guess it is so intimidating facing Serena that you try to give a little bit extra on your second serve so she doesn't just marmalise the return into the corner. Serena really upped her level at the end of the first set, but aside from that was very patchy. Looking at the rest of the field it might still be enough to win the title this year!

Oh and btw, Strykova at above 2/1 is a really good bet in the next match imo!

Agree, the double faults were huge. She played very well.

vul Berg.   She was so tactically naive though.   Was sitting here pulling my hair out watching her decision making.

Afternoon gents and ladies.

Just returned from a 7 night work cruise, and on the coach home fired up the last of my phone battery to see if POTY odds had been released. Was delighted to see a certain Mr B.Silva in at 14s on Shy, but sadly in the last couple of hours that appears to have shrunk down to 11s (or was never accurate in the first place!)

Only 3 bookies have that market priced up currently (10s on betfare/patrickpower) so although I think 11/1 is still pretty decent, it might be worth holding on to see if someone else goes a notch or 2 higher...unlikely maybe but you never know.

If nothing bigger materialises then I certainly wouldn't put anyone off at 11/1; it's a strange market as its essentially a marathon with a number of strong candidates but Bernardo is simply different gravy and the finest footballer in the league. Pep adores him, he's fit as a fiddle and never seems to be crocked, he appears to be very popular amongst his peers/the media, and he is a truly gifted all round footballer.

I'll keep checking in with his odds and obv won't be a rec if it's Shy who remain tops.

It was a tough watch, but that's women's tennis in a nutshell!

Think he could have phrased the question a bit better: he ran her down a bit in his opening statement.  I haven't seen the whole press conference, but others have said that she had answered similar questions already.  She is up to 8th in the WTA race, and is clearly better this year than last.  If she can hold on to the top 8 spot until the end of the season, it will be her best season ever.  She has a semi final and quarter final in the last two slams, and how many others have done that?  It is a bit harsh when people talk of her bottling, as this bloke implies, when she has also mounted some pretty strong comebacks this year.

I backed her at 150/1 for the French and 50/1 for Wimbledon, and some people are acting like she was a 1/2 chance.  I don't even think she bottled it here, her game wasn't great from 4-1 up.  Just a bad day at the office, and pretty undestandable she is a bit grumpy when folks just focus on the negative.

Bernardo Silva in at 12s on Bald for POTY. Don't think we'll get much better than that.

Rec whatever the Teeks is comfortable with but I'd be looking around the £50 mark if you want a figure Smiley

Definitely backing Bernardo. Hopefully someone will stick up a bit of 16-1. Should be able to wait and get at least 12-1 I think.

Re the penalty chat from a while ago, there were 84 successful pens in the PL last season. Spreadex have the line for this season at 104-109.

Not sure I share your 16/1 optimism chomps but more than happy to sweat it out Smiley

Have a feeling in my considerable gut that he's gonna smash the league to pieces this coming season. An incredible player.

You think that is an over reaction to Var coming in?
